Christmas Gifts to Mail to Family You Won't See This Year (One Order, Every Address)

Updated

In short

For family you can't visit this Christmas, mail each household something they'll use up, one keepsake and a card that says what you'd say at the door. Send to every address from one list, so nobody's gift waits on a trip to the post office, and send early: USPS's Ground Advantage send-by date for Christmas is Thursday, December 17.

On this page10 sections

We sell a $35 personalized mug gift box, printed, packed and shipped to each person's address. This guide covers the other options too.

Key facts

  • About one in five US adults live near no extended family at all; 55% live within an hour's drive of at least some (Pew Research Center, October 2021 survey).
  • USPS's 2026 Christmas send-by dates for the lower 48: Ground Advantage Thursday, December 17; Priority Mail Friday, December 18; Priority Mail Express Saturday, December 19 (USPS).
  • Mailing it yourself: USPS's retail Ground Advantage price for a parcel up to 2 lb runs from $11.30 to $19.80, depending on distance (USPS Notice 123), before the box and padding.
  • One order, every address: Personalized Gifts Delivered ships a $35 box to each address on your list, shipping included, each card greeting its person by first name. Order by Tuesday, December 15 for Christmas.

When do I have to order so it arrives by Christmas?

Work back from Friday, December 25. These are the last recommended dates, not the comfortable ones:

How it travels Send or order by
USPS Ground Advantage (you mail it) Thu Dec 17
USPS Priority Mail Fri Dec 18
USPS Priority Mail Express Sat Dec 19
A Personalized Gifts Delivered box (we print, pack and ship it) Tue Dec 15

USPS calls its dates "recommended" and says actual delivery dates "may vary" (USPS).

Our date is earlier than USPS's because it also counts the time we take to print and pack. Ships within 2 business days of a complete order (your design, your address list and payment). Ships by USPS Ground Advantage or UPS Ground, with tracking, and usually arrives 2–5 business days after it ships. Delivery dates are carrier estimates, not guarantees, and run slower in mid-December.

Anyone on the list celebrating Hanukkah? It begins the evening of Friday, December 4 this year, so their box needs ordering by Monday, November 23. Every date in one place: 2026 holiday order-by dates.

What should I send each person on my list?

One Reddit poster, skipping the long drive to family this year because their baby was due close to Christmas, asked for gifts "that are easy to post (so nothing bulky) yet something more personal than just a gift card" (r/GiftIdeas). That's the test for every name on the list: light, unbreakable or well padded, and clearly from you.

Who What tends to land Our box?
Parents Something they use up, plus a photo of you or the grandkids Yes: a photo mug, with cocoa and truffles inside
Grandparents A photo they can hold, with no app and nothing to set up Yes: see photo mugs for long-distance grandparents
Siblings An inside joke beats an expensive thing Yes: a few words on the mug only the two of you get
In-laws Something that looks considered, without overspending Yes: see Christmas gifts for in-laws
Nieces, nephews, grandkids A book, a toy, or a pass to somewhere near them For their parents: a family photo mug; the poster above found zoo passes for the kids "were a hit"
A friend you used to spend Christmas with Something you can share on a call Yes: a cocoa date, one box to each of you

Givers tend to favor how desirable a gift is, while receivers favor how practical it is (Baskin et al., 2014): cocoa on a cold evening, in a mug with the family on it, is practical and personal at once.

If someone on your list already has more mugs than cupboard, make theirs about one memory only your family shares: the cocoa and truffles inside get used up either way, and the card carries the rest. More on that: personal gifts for people who live far away.

How do I send a gift to every household in one order?

Treat it like a holiday card list, with boxes. One list, one order, a box to each door.

  1. List households, not people. One row per address. Parents who live together share a box and a card, or get two rows (two boxes) if each should get their own mug.
  2. Get every address right. Ask anyone who has moved. Check each one with the free USPS ZIP Code lookup, and add apartment and unit numbers.
  3. Pick one design for every mug. A family photo, the kids' drawing, or one line such as "Merry Christmas from all of us". Every mug in an order carries the same print; the card can greet each person by first name.
  4. Write one card message for everyone. It can greet each person by first name ("Merry Christmas, {first name}"), filled in from your list. Different words for your parents than for your sibling? Make those separate orders.
  5. Order by Tuesday, December 15, then keep the tracking email. When your boxes ship, you get one email with a spreadsheet of recipient, ship date, carrier, tracking number and $35 per box.

With Personalized Gifts Delivered, that's one personalized mug gift box shipped to their door per row: one 11 oz white ceramic mug with your photo or words, a 1.5 oz packet of Ghirardelli premium hot cocoa and 4 Lindt LINDOR milk chocolate truffles inside it, and your printed card in an envelope closed with a gold wax-seal sticker, in a matte-black gift box with a magnetic lid. Five households is $175, shipping included. Choose a personal gift, add your photo or type your words, check the preview of your mug and card, add the address (or a list of addresses), and pay $35 per box. We print, pack and ship each box to its own address.

The label's return address shows PersonalizedGiftsDelivered.com, never your name, so the box doesn't give the surprise away; your name appears only on the card inside. The list's columns: address list template.

Can I make the boxes and mail them myself?

Yes: you can make and mail each household's box yourself, and for one gift the printed mug and counter postage alone cost $28.46, before the cocoa, truffles, gift box, tissue or card (DIY cost comparison, as of Oct 29, 2026). Then comes the work, once per household:

  • Shop for the parts: the photo mug from a print shop, then the treats, a gift box, tissue, a card and envelope, foam and a shipping carton, often from several stores, plus a week or more waiting for supplies to arrive.
  • Pack each box for the trip: nothing hard against the handle or the rim, nothing loose in the carton. By our estimate, that's about 8 minutes a box once every part is on the table.
  • Mail each one: the counter line in December, then one tracking number per box to follow.

What a small mistake costs: a mug packed without a collar can break at the handle and must be bought, packed and shipped again, and a wrong or stale address sends a box away and back. A big family list multiplies all of it: by our estimate, 25 mug gift boxes take about 9 hours of hands-on work, and per box the comparison comes out about even with our $35 (about $38 with USPS counter postage, about $34 with commercial postage), with $1,192.84 paid up front for the mugs, the supply packs and 25 postage labels. What we take off your plate is the printing, the packing, the labels and the tracking.

With Personalized Gifts Delivered, you choose the photo or the words, write the card once, add every household and check the preview. We print, pack and ship each box to its own address.

What do I write to family I can't visit this Christmas?

Write what you'd say at the door. Three moves cover it: one specific memory, one honest "I wish I were there", and one plan to see them. Skip the apology paragraph; they know.

Each message below is under 300 characters, so it fits our printed card (up to 300 characters). Swap in your own names and details. One order prints one message on every card, so a message written for your parents goes in an order of its own.

To parents

Mom and Dad, I keep thinking about Christmas Eve at your table and how the kitchen smells by noon. I wish I were there. Make a cocoa, call me when you open this, and let's put a weekend on the calendar for spring.

To grandparents

Grandma and Grandpa, the kids made us promise to tell you they miss you. So do we. The photo on this mug is from the lake last summer. Have a cocoa on us and save us four seats for next Christmas.

To a sibling

Merry Christmas to my favorite sibling (don't tell the others). I'll miss our yearly fight over the board game. Drink this, eat the truffles, and know I'm cheating at cards in your honor from here.

To in-laws

Merry Christmas from all of us. We're sorry to miss dinner this year, and we'll miss the pie most of all. Thank you for making us feel like family from the very first visit. See you soon.

From the whole family

From our house to yours: Merry Christmas! The kids picked the photo and we all miss you. Call us when you open this so we can see your faces.

When you're missing a tradition

It won't feel like Christmas without our walk to see the lights. Take one for me this year and send a picture. Next year, I'm bringing the cocoa.

When you can't travel because of a new baby

We can't make the drive this year (the baby has opinions about the timing), so this box is coming instead. Merry Christmas. Next year there'll be one more of us at the table.

More lines by occasion: the card message library. For a box meant to feel like a hug in any season: hug in a box.

Checklist: Christmas gifts to every household

  • One row per address, with who lives there
  • Addresses confirmed with anyone who moved this year
  • Every address checked with the USPS ZIP Code lookup, unit numbers added
  • Any address outside the lower 48 states and Washington, DC, or in Texas, fixed or taken out (the order page flags it)
  • Allergies and diets checked (the box holds milk chocolate and cocoa)
  • One design chosen for every mug
  • One card message written, and a separate order for anyone who gets different words
  • Ordered by Tuesday, December 15, or mailed by Thursday, December 17 if you ship it yourself
  • Tracking email saved
  • A call planned for when the boxes land

What to know before you order

  • Where we ship. From New York to the lower 48 states and Washington, DC, except Texas for now; no Alaska, Hawaii, Puerto Rico, other US territories, APO/FPO or international addresses. P.O. boxes are fine. The order page flags rows we can't ship to, so you can fix them or take them out before you pay; everything else on your list stays as it is.
  • One design and one message per order. Every mug in an order carries the same photo or words, and every card the same message, greeting its person by first name. A different name on a mug, or different words for your parents, is an order of its own; one box is a complete order, at $35 delivered.
  • The treats. LINDOR truffles contain milk, soy and barley malt (gluten); read the labels. Every box holds the same cocoa and truffles, so one question per household settles it.
  • Delivery dates. Delivery dates are carrier estimates, not guarantees, and run slower in mid-December. Order by Tuesday, December 15 for Christmas delivery; that date covers printing your mug, packing and shipping, and the tracking email shows where each box is.

Where Personalized Gifts Delivered fits: every household on your Christmas list

Your parents in one state, your sister in another, the grandparents in a third: the gift this page describes is something they use up, one keepsake and your words, at every door, from one list. Personalized Gifts Delivered sends all three, finished:

  • Their mug: your photo, the kids' drawing or a few words, printed on an 11 oz white ceramic mug, with Ghirardelli cocoa and 4 Lindt LINDOR milk chocolate truffles packed inside it.
  • Your words, on top: one message, printed on a card that greets each person by first name, sealed in an envelope with a gold wax-seal sticker and laid on the lid. You see the mug and every card before you pay.
  • Packed to travel: by hand, with a foam collar around the mug and a foam pad on its rim, in a matte-black gift box with a magnetic lid, inside a plain white carton.
  • Every household, one order: $35 per box, delivered, with no minimum, and one email with every tracking number when the boxes ship.

No parts to buy, nothing to pack, no December counter line. Order by Tuesday, December 15 for Christmas, and start your order.

Frequently asked questions

What can I send my parents for Christmas if I can't go home?
If you can't go home for Christmas, send your parents something they'll use up (good cocoa, coffee or chocolate), one keepsake with a photo or a memory on it, and a card that says what you'd say at the door. Then call when it arrives, so they open it with you.
When should I mail Christmas gifts so they arrive on time?
For Christmas delivery in the lower 48, USPS's recommended send-by dates are Thursday, December 17, 2026 for Ground Advantage, Friday, December 18 for Priority Mail and Saturday, December 19 for Priority Mail Express. USPS says actual delivery may vary, so earlier is safer.
Can I send Christmas gifts to several family members at different addresses in one order?
Yes: Personalized Gifts Delivered ships a $35 personalized mug gift box to each address on one list, shipping included. Every mug carries your photo or words, and every card greets its person by first name.
What should I write in a Christmas card to family I can't visit?
Write three things in a Christmas card to family you can't visit: one specific memory of Christmas with them, one honest line that you wish you were there, and one plan to see them. Two or three sentences is enough.
Can each family member's mug have their own name on it?
Not in one Personalized Gifts Delivered order: every mug in an order carries the same photo or words, and the card is where each person's first name appears. For a different name on each mug, place a separate order for each; one box is a complete order.
