The DIY Shopping List, Priced From Retail Packs

We priced the same kind of box ours is: a logo mug, one cocoa packet, 4 truffles, a gift box, tissue, two gold seals, a card and envelope, cushioning, a shipping carton and postage. Prices as of Oct 29, 2026 (unchanged since our first check on Oct 26), before tax and before shipping on the supplies unless stated. The per-box column counts only what one box uses (one cocoa packet, 4 of 75 truffles, one of 50 gift boxes); the rest of each pack shows up in the cash up front and the leftovers below.

Weigh your packed box: at 2 lb the same Zone 5 price is $14.85. Printful's bulk pricing "starts at 25 or more units of the same product" (Printful), but the page doesn't list the mug's rate, so the mug line has no discount.

25 Gifts: $34 to $38 a Box, $1,192.84 Before You Pack One

Per box, by our arithmetic:

• Items counted per box in the table: $34.63.
• Bubble wrap and crinkle, if they serve only these 25 boxes ($74 ÷ 25): +$2.96.
• Avery's $6.95 shipping ÷ 25: +$0.28.
• Total: about $37.87 a box, before shipping on the Uline, Lindt and WebstaurantStore orders, sales tax and your time.

At USPS's commercial price for the same parcel ($12.12 to Zone 5), the total falls to about $34.29. So per box, DIY comes out about even with our $35: a little over at the counter, 71 cents under with commercial postage, before the supply shipping, the sales tax and the hours. The differences are elsewhere.

Cash up front: $1,192.84 for 25 gifts (the mugs, both truffle bags, every pack and 25 postage labels), against $875 for 25 of our boxes.

What's left over: 5 cocoa packets, 50 truffles, 25 gift boxes, 935 tissue sheets, 25 cards, 2,350 seals, and most of the bubble wrap and crinkle. Useful if you'll do it again; money on a shelf if you won't.

1 Gift: $28.46 Before the Cocoa

For a single gift, retail packs make no sense: a carton of 50 gift boxes to wrap one mug. Here's what one costs before any of the extras:

• Printful logo mug, shipped to you: about $12.76.
• Counter postage for the finished box, Zone 5: $15.70.
• $28.46, with no cocoa, truffles, gift box, tissue or card yet. Those you'd buy one at a time from a local store, at its prices.

ChatGPT reached the same place from the other direction. Asked in October 2026 where to buy "a premium black gift box with a custom logo mug" with no minimum, it suggested an engraved black mug from an Etsy shop at $26.99 plus a black logo gift box at $29.95: about $57 before cocoa, a card or shipping (our own test, not a study).

How Long Does It Take to Make 25 Yourself?

Yes: you can make them yourself, and by our estimate 25 logo mug gift boxes take about 9 hours of hands-on work, plus a week or more waiting for supplies to arrive. None of the prices above pays for that time.

Each of those 8 minutes is the same routine: check the mug's handle and rim for chips, drop the cocoa packet and 4 truffles inside, cushion the handle and rim, set it in the gift box, fold the tissue and seal it, lay the sealed card on top, close the box, and pack it in a carton with fill on every side.

What one small mistake costs: a mug packed without a collar can break at the handle and must be bought, packed and shipped again; a wrong or stale address sends a box away and back; a typo on 25 printed cards means printing 25 again.

How to Pack a Mug So It Arrives Whole

The mugs we've seen break in shipping broke at the handle, and the rim is the other weak spot. So pad both. In our boxes the mug stands on a 2 in foam pad, held in a 1 in foam collar, with a 1 in foam pad on its rim. Then the tissue, the gift box, and a plain white 9 × 9 × 9 in shipping carton with about 1 in of crinkle on every side. A DIY sender can copy the idea with bubble wrap: nothing hard should touch the handle or the rim, and the gift box shouldn't touch the carton walls.

Chocolate is the other risk. Lake Champlain Chocolates adds "a special insulation" and "gel ice packs" for "shipments during the summer months and year-round to warm weather destinations" (Lake Champlain). By those rules it's mostly a warm-month and warm-destination problem, but check where your boxes are going.

Add your logo (or type your website and we'll find it), or a photo or a few words for a personal gift; check the preview of your mug and card; add your address list; and pay $35 per box. We print, pack and ship each box to its own address. When your boxes ship, you get one email with a spreadsheet of recipient, ship date, carrier, tracking number and $35 per box. If a box goes astray because of an address on your list, we'll reship it to the corrected address for what the reship costs us, with no markup, and tell you the amount before we send it.

What to Know Before You Order

• Where we ship. The lower 48 states and Washington, DC, except Texas for now; no Alaska, Hawaii, Puerto Rico, other US territories, APO/FPO addresses or other countries. The order page flags those rows, so you can fix them or take them out before you pay; everything else on your list stays as it is.
• The treats. LINDOR truffles contain milk, soy and barley malt (gluten); read the labels. Every box holds the same cocoa and truffles.
• The card. Printed, not handwritten: one message and one sign-off per order, up to 300 characters, with each person's first name filled in from your list. A different message is its own order, and one box is a complete order.
