Which Sets Come With a Mug?

Six of the ten: Ghirardelli's Holiday box, Harry & David's Holiday Mugs kit, Packed with Purpose's basket, both Godiva sets (sold out on Oct 29) and ours. The other four are cocoa and treats only, which suits someone whose cupboard is already full of mugs.

The mugs differ more than the cocoa does:

• Ghirardelli: a red keepsake mug with the Ghirardelli name.
• Godiva: porcelain with gold handles, 12 oz on the single-mug set.
• Harry & David: snowman-shaped ceramic mugs.
• Packed with Purpose: a 12 oz white speckled ceramic mug. Its page asks "Interested in adding your logo to a mug?" and points you to "Contact a Gift Concierge"; its corporate page lists a branded keepsake, such as a mug, "Starting at $8.99 per gift" (Packed with Purpose).
• Ours: an 11 oz white ceramic mug with your logo printed small, so the mug says who it's from.

Price per Cup: What the Cocoa Alone Costs

By our arithmetic, from the prices above:

• Lake Champlain: about $1.09 a serving ($35 ÷ about 32 servings).
• Ghirardelli, bought by the case: $1.25 a packet ($79.95 for 64 single-serve 1 oz packets of Double Chocolate Hot Cocoa Mix).
• Hotel Chocolat: $2.70 a sachet ($27 ÷ 10).

Our reading: the sets with a mug and treats charge for those and for the presentation; the tins and sachets are mostly the cocoa itself.

Do Hot Cocoa Bombs Ship Well?

A cocoa bomb is a hollow chocolate shell, so it carries the same warm-weather limits as any chocolate gift. The stores on this list handle heat this way:

• Ghirardelli: standard orders ship "from Monday through Wednesday", and "Due to the risk of melting, all orders with chocolates are shipped with ice packs, bubble wraps, and packing cushions" (Ghirardelli shipping).
• Hotel Chocolat: ships standard orders early in the week so the chocolate "isn't sat in a hot truck over the weekend" (Hotel Chocolat shipping).
• Lake Champlain: "the shipping boxes are lined with a special insulation and then gel ice packs are added" for "shipments during the summer months and year-round to warm weather destinations" (Lake Champlain).

None of the ten sets above is a cocoa bomb. If you send one, choose a seller with rules like these.

Sending Hot Cocoa to Clients or Employees

For a business gift, two things change: the list, and the name on it.

• A list of addresses. Packed with Purpose takes its Excel order form or ships "to multiple addresses through your online order", and offers a link that "lets recipients choose their gift and share their address" (Packed with Purpose). We take one address list, typed, pasted, a CSV or a Google Sheet, and ship each box to its own address.
• Your name or logo. Packed with Purpose adds a logo to the box or card "from $3–$5 per gift", with "no minimums required". Ours prints your logo small on the mug; the card carries your message, greeting each person by first name.

Ordering ours works like this. Add your logo (or type your website and we'll find it), or a photo or a few words for a personal gift; check the preview of your mug and card; add your address list; and pay $35 per box. We print, pack and ship each box to its own address. Ships within 2 business days of a complete order (your design, your address list and payment). Ships by USPS Ground Advantage or UPS Ground, with tracking, and usually arrives 2–5 business days after it ships. Delivery dates are carrier estimates, not guarantees, and run slower in mid-December. For Christmas, order by Tuesday, December 15.

What to Know Before You Order

• One cup of cocoa. Ours holds one 1.5 oz Ghirardelli packet, sized for one 8 fl oz cup, with 4 Lindt LINDOR milk chocolate truffles; the mug is the part that stays.
• A logo, or a personal print. The logo box carries your logo; for family and friends, the personalized mug gift box prints a photo or a few words instead.
• The treats. LINDOR truffles contain milk, soy and barley malt (gluten); read the labels.
• Where we ship. The lower 48 states and Washington, DC, except Texas for now; no Alaska, Hawaii, Puerto Rico, other US territories, APO/FPO addresses or other countries. The order page flags those rows, so you can fix them or take them out before you pay; everything else on your list stays as it is.
