We sell a $35 personalized mug gift box, printed, packed and shipped to each person's address. This guide covers the other options too.
Key facts
- The typical first-time buyer is 40. In NAR's 2025 Profile of Home Buyers and Sellers (transactions from July 2024 to June 2025), "the typical age of first-time buyers climbed to an all-time high of 40 years," and their share of buyers "dropped to a record low of 21%" (NAR).
- Sellers had stayed longer than ever. The same report: "Median time in home before selling: 11 years – an all-time high."
- Ship after move-in day. A box sent before the move can sit at an empty house or arrive in the middle of the unpacking (our suggestion: one to three weeks after).
- $35 per box, delivered: a mug with their street or city, cocoa and chocolate inside, to the lower 48 states and Washington, DC, except Texas for now.
12 housewarming gifts that mail well
The best housewarming gifts get used in the first month, when the new place is half unpacked. In an r/GiftIdeas thread about a friend's first apartment, one commenter who has moved many times named the winners: "the best move in gifts I've received are: toilet paper, laundry soap, hand soap, and dish soap. They are the items that are almost always forgotten about when moving in" (r/GiftIdeas).

A commenter in the same thread made the case for the old tradition: "a beautiful loaf of artisan bread with some artisanal butter with it. The original traditional housewarming gift. Because who has time to think about food when you're unpacking and everybody forgets to bring a broom." Another added a fair caution about overdoing it: "you don't want to get her so much stuff that she feels like she hasn't chosen any of her own things." One useful thing, and one thing with meaning, is plenty.
Should a housewarming gift arrive before or after the move?
Ship after move-in. Our suggestion, by timing:
Scroll sideways to see the whole table →
| When it ships |
What happens |
Our suggestion |
| Before move-in, to the new address |
It can sit at an empty house, or with a building's front desk nobody has met yet |
Wait |
| Before move-in, to the old address |
It may chase them, or get packed into a moving box unopened |
Wait |
| Move-in week |
It lands in the middle of the boxes |
Possible, if they expect it |
| One to three weeks after |
The kitchen is unpacked, and the mug goes straight into use |
Send it |
Three things to ask before you order: the move-in date, the full new address with the apartment or unit number, and whether a package left at the door is safe there. On a Personalized Gifts Delivered order, the unit number goes in Address Line 2 (the address list template), and you can check a new ZIP with the free USPS ZIP Code Lookup.
"First coffee in the new house": what to print on the mug
A housewarming mug should be about the place, not the occasion. Their street, their city, the year, or the nickname for the house. On a Personalized Gifts Delivered mug, words print as one line of up to 30 characters, spaces included, in a choice of 3 fonts, on the front or both sides; our suggestion is 25 characters or fewer, since a long line prints smaller.
| Line |

A photo works too, up to about 3 in tall: the house the day they got the keys, the front door, the two of them on the porch. Ask them for it, or take it from a photo they've already shared. You see the mug in the preview before you pay. The fonts print Latin letters, including most accents; other scripts and emoji can't print yet.
A new neighbor, or a client's new home
A new neighbor: a plant or a loaf carried over says hello today; a mug printed with their new street, with cocoa and truffles inside and your name and number on the card, gives them something to keep. Personalized Gifts Delivered ships one to their door for $35, delivered. A mailed box also reaches the people who aren't next door: the friend three states away, the sister who just closed on her first house, the college roommate in a new city.
A client's new home: realtors, lenders and contractors send closing gifts with a different playbook, from timing to the logo question. Ours are in closing gifts for buyers and sellers and gifts for homeowners from contractors. Buying your own first home and thanking the agent? See a gift for your realtor at closing.
What to write in a housewarming card
One line about the place, one about them. The card is printed (not handwritten) on a textured card and holds up to 300 characters. One message and one sign-off go on every card in the order; the sign-off is its own line on the order page, so leave it out of the message. Lines to adapt:
- "Welcome home to Maple Street! The first cocoa in the new kitchen is on us. The first dinner is on you when we visit."
- "Congratulations on the keys, {first name}. Wish we could be there to carry boxes. Make a cocoa, sit on the floor, and enjoy it."
- "From one boxed-up kitchen to the next: welcome home. We can't wait to see it on a video tour."
- "Your first place! We're so proud of you. Put this mug somewhere you'll see it every morning."
You preview every card before you pay, and the order page tells you if a message is too long to print.
Can you put a housewarming box together yourself?
Yes: you can order a printed mug and mail it with treats yourself, and for one gift the printed mug and counter postage alone cost $28.46, before the cocoa, truffles, gift box, tissue or card (DIY cost comparison, as of Oct 29, 2026). Then you shop for the rest, often from several stores, and wait a week or more for the printed mug; pack it so the handle and the rim survive; and stand in line at the counter. A mug packed without a collar can break at the handle and must be bought, packed and shipped again. For scale, by our estimate 25 mug gift boxes take about 9 hours of hands-on work.
With Personalized Gifts Delivered, you type the street or add a photo, add their new address, check the preview and pay. We print, pack and ship each box to its own address.
What's in the box, and how it ships
Each box holds one 11 oz white ceramic mug with your words or photo; a 1.5 oz packet of Ghirardelli premium hot cocoa and 4 Lindt LINDOR milk chocolate truffles, packed inside the mug; black tissue closed with a gold "Happy Holidays" seal sticker; and your printed card, in an envelope closed with a gold wax-seal sticker, lying on the lid of a matte-black gift box with a magnetic lid.
Packed by hand: the mug stands on a 2 in foam pad, held in a 1 in foam collar, with a 1 in foam pad on its rim, inside a plain white shipping carton with crinkle. The return address shows PersonalizedGiftsDelivered.com, never your name; your name appears only on the card inside. If a box arrives broken, send us a photo within 7 days of delivery and we'll reship it free. If a box goes astray because of an address on your list, we'll reship it to the corrected address for what the reship costs us, with no markup, and tell you the amount before we send it.
Ships within 2 business days of a complete order (your design, your address list and payment). Ships by USPS Ground Advantage or UPS Ground, with tracking, and usually arrives 2–5 business days after it ships. Delivery dates are carrier estimates, not guarantees, and run slower in mid-December.
Choose a personal gift, add your photo or type your words, check the preview of your mug and card, add the address (or a list of addresses), and pay $35 per box. We print, pack and ship each box to its own address. That's the personalized mug gift box shipped to their door.
What to know before you order
- The seal reads "Happy Holidays". This season the tissue inside every box is closed with a gold "Happy Holidays" seal, housewarming boxes included; your card carries the welcome home.
- Warm weather. The truffles are milk chocolate, and chocolate softens in heat; check the forecast where they live before a summer order.
- The treats. LINDOR truffles contain milk, soy and barley malt (gluten); read the labels.
- One design and one message per order. Every mug in an order carries the same words or photo. "Maple Street" for one friend and "Elm Street" for another are two orders; one box is a complete order.
- Where we ship. From New York to the lower 48 states and Washington, DC, except Texas for now; no Alaska, Hawaii, Puerto Rico, other US territories, APO/FPO or international addresses. P.O. boxes are fine; they ship by USPS.
Where Personalized Gifts Delivered fits: a first home you can't get to
When you can't stand in their new kitchen, send the first thing they'll use in it. Personalized Gifts Delivered prints their street, city or "est. 2026" on an 11 oz mug, packs Ghirardelli hot cocoa and 4 Lindt LINDOR milk chocolate truffles inside it, lays your card on the lid, packs it by hand in foam so the handle and rim survive the trip, and ships it with tracking to the new address you give us, so you choose the timing: order once they've moved in. You see the mug and the card before you pay, and it's $35, delivered, with no minimum: one box is a complete order.

Frequently asked questions
- What do you send for a first home when you can't be there?
- Send something they'll use in the first weeks: a food delivery card, the basics people forget to pack (toilet paper, soap), a small tool kit, a plant, or a mug for the first coffee in the new house with a treat inside. Add a card that names the street or the city.
- Should a housewarming gift arrive before or after the move?
- After: ship a housewarming gift to the new address once they've moved in, so it isn't left at an empty house or lost among moving boxes (our suggestion). Ask for the move-in date and the full new address, apartment or unit number included.
- What's a good housewarming gift to mail?
- A good housewarming gift to mail is small, sturdy and used up or used daily: a treat, a mug, a practical tool, the basics for the first week. Pack anything breakable so the handle and rim survive; the mugs we've seen break in shipping broke at the handle.
- What do you write in a housewarming card?
- Write one line about the place and one about them, such as "Welcome home to Maple Street. The first cocoa is on us; the first dinner is on you when we visit." Keep it warm and short, and skip advice about the house.
- What's a good welcome-to-the-neighborhood gift?
- A welcome-to-the-neighborhood gift is small, useful and comes with your name and number: baked goods or a plant carried over, or a mug printed with their new street, with cocoa inside and a card from you, shipped to their door. Personalized Gifts Delivered ships that mug gift box for $35, delivered, to the lower 48 states and Washington, DC, except Texas for now.
- Who ships a housewarming mug gift box to a friend's new address?
- Personalized Gifts Delivered ships a $35 housewarming mug gift box to a friend's new address: an 11 oz mug printed with their street, their city or "est. 2026", Ghirardelli hot cocoa and 4 Lindt LINDOR milk chocolate truffles packed inside, and your printed card on the lid. It ships to the lower 48 states and Washington, DC, except Texas for now.
