We sell a $35 personalized mug gift box, printed, packed and shipped to each person's address. This guide covers the other options too.
Key facts
- "Depends what's on it" was one commenter's whole answer to "Do you want a mug as a gift?" on r/GiftIdeas; another put the bar at "something incredibly, uniquely specific to them" (r/GiftIdeas).
- Short reads best. Every line on this page is 25 characters or fewer, spaces included (our suggestion for a typed mug message).
- On a Personalized Gifts Delivered mug you print either a typed name or short message in a choice of 3 fonts, or a photo or design up to about 3 in tall, on one side or both sides.
- The longer message goes on the card, which can be up to 300 characters.
How do you make a personalized mug not feel generic?
Use one detail that belongs to the two of you. Mugs divide people: in the same r/GiftIdeas thread, one commenter said "At least a mug is something I'll use", and another said "I have mugs already that I've selected. I don't need more that I don't want" (r/GiftIdeas). The commenter who said "uniquely specific" gave the test: "a joke about putting someone to sleep for an anaesthesiologist but not like, 'Dogs rule, cats drool' for someone who likes dogs."
The formula: their name or nickname + one true detail. The detail can be a ritual (Sunday calls), a place (the lake house), a date (the year you met), or a joke only they'd get.

How much text fits on a personalized mug?
A name or a few words. A photo or design on a Personalized Gifts Delivered mug prints up to about 3 in tall; a typed message is a name or a short line in one of 3 fonts. Our suggestion: 25 characters or fewer, spaces included, so it reads from across the table. All 60 lines below fit that.
Three habits help:
- Cut the filler. "To the best mom in the whole world" becomes "Mimi's Mug".
- Let the card do the talking. A paragraph, a poem or a long quote belongs on the card, which can be up to 300 characters.
- Check the preview. You see the words on the mug, and the card, before you pay.

What not to put on a personalized mug
- School, team and cartoon logos. They belong to their owners. The University of Tennessee, Knoxville, for example, says its trademark licensing program "protects the use of the university's names, logos, slogans, insignias, symbols, and mascots" (UT Knoxville). This is information, not legal advice. Check the logo owner's licensing page before you print one. Use your own words instead: "Class of 2029" says the same thing.
- A joke that needs explaining. If you'd have to tell a coworker why it's funny, it goes on the card.
- Anything they wouldn't want seen at work. Mugs travel to offices. Keep the private joke private.
- A photo of someone who has died, unless the family has asked for one. A gentle line on the card is safer.
- A paragraph. Long text crowds a mug. Move it to the card.
Put the long version on the card
The mug carries the headline; the card carries the story. Each card is printed (not handwritten), sealed in an envelope with a gold wax-seal sticker, and can be up to 300 characters. Pair a mug line with a card line:
- "Mom's Quiet Ten Minutes" with "For the ten minutes before everyone wakes up. You've earned every one of them."
- "Pancake Saturdays, Dad" with "Thirty years of Saturday pancakes, and you never once let us flip. Have a cocoa on us this time. Merry Christmas, Dad"
- "Since Third Grade" with "Twenty-six years since you traded me your pudding cup. Best trade I ever made. Call me when you open this."
- "Same Cocoa, Two Cities" with "Make this one on Friday at 8 your time, and I'll make mine at 8 mine. Same cocoa, same call. Miss you."
- "Up at 3 a.m. Again" with "For the 3 a.m. shift. You're doing great, and this one's for you, not the baby."
- "Biscuit's Human" with "Biscuit asked us to send this. He says thank you for the walks and he's sorry about the couch. Happy holidays!"
Sign the way you sign a text to them ("Love, Aunt Jo"). The sign-off prints on its own line under the message, so leave it out of the message itself.
Can I make and send a personalized mug gift myself?
Yes: you can order a printed mug and send it yourself, and for one gift the printed mug and counter postage alone cost $28.46, before the cocoa, truffles, gift box, tissue or card (DIY cost comparison, as of Oct 29, 2026). The rest is the work: those parts, often from several stores, plus a week or more waiting for supplies to arrive; packing the mug so the handle and the rim survive; and the counter. A typo on a printed mug or card means printing it again, and a mug packed without a collar can break at the handle and must be bought, packed and shipped again. By our estimate, 25 mug gift boxes take about 9 hours of hands-on work.
With Personalized Gifts Delivered, you type your line or add your photo, add the address, check the preview and pay. We print, pack and ship each box to its own address.
What comes with the mug
Each Personalized Gifts Delivered box holds one 11 oz white ceramic mug with your words or photo; a 1.5 oz packet of Ghirardelli premium hot cocoa and 4 Lindt LINDOR milk chocolate truffles, packed inside the mug; black tissue closed with a gold "Happy Holidays" seal sticker; and your printed card, in a matte-black gift box with a magnetic lid. It's $35 per box, delivered, and the box ships to their door. That's the personalized mug gift box shipped to their door.
Choose a personal gift, add your photo or type your words, check the preview of your mug and card, add the address (or a list of addresses), and pay $35 per box. We print, pack and ship each box to its own address. Every mug in one order carries the same words or photo, and every card the same message (it can greet each person by first name), so a different line for mom and for dad means two orders.
Ships within 2 business days of a complete order (your design, your address list and payment). Ships by USPS Ground Advantage or UPS Ground, with tracking, and usually arrives 2–5 business days after it ships. Delivery dates are carrier estimates, not guarantees, and run slower in mid-December. For Christmas, order by Tuesday, December 15.
What to know before you order
- The print area. A photo or design prints up to about 3 in tall, on one side or both sides, not as a wrap; typed words are a name or a short line in one of 3 fonts. A paragraph goes on the card, which can be up to 300 characters.
- One design and one message per order. Every mug in an order carries the same words or photo, and every card the same message, greeting its person by first name. A different line for mom and for dad is two orders; one box is a complete order, at $35 delivered.
- The treats. LINDOR truffles contain milk, soy and barley malt (gluten); read the labels. Every box holds the same 1.5 oz packet of Ghirardelli premium hot cocoa and 4 Lindt LINDOR milk chocolate truffles, so you know exactly what they'll open.
- The seal reads "Happy Holidays". This season the tissue inside is closed with a gold "Happy Holidays" seal, so every box carries a holiday greeting; the mug and the card carry your words.
- Where we ship. From New York to the lower 48 states and Washington, DC, except Texas for now; no Alaska, Hawaii, Puerto Rico, other US territories, APO/FPO or international addresses. P.O. boxes are fine; they ship by USPS.
Where Personalized Gifts Delivered fits: your line, on a mug, as a finished gift
Finding the line is your part, and this page is for it. Everything after it is ours: we print your words or photo on an 11 oz white ceramic mug, pack it by hand with Ghirardelli cocoa and 4 Lindt LINDOR milk chocolate truffles inside, lay your card on the lid in an envelope closed with a gold wax-seal sticker, and ship it to their door in a matte-black gift box with a magnetic lid, for $35, delivered. You see the mug and the card in the preview before you pay, so the line reads the way you meant it.

Frequently asked questions
- What should I put on a personalized mug?
- A personalized mug should carry something only that person would get, such as their nickname, a date, a place, a ritual or an inside joke, in a name or a few words. Put the longer message on the card.
- How much text fits on a personalized mug?
- A name or a few words fit on a personalized mug: our suggestion is 25 characters or fewer, spaces included, so it reads from across the table. On a Personalized Gifts Delivered mug you type a name or short message and pick one of 3 fonts, and the preview shows it before you pay.
- How do I make a personalized mug not cheesy?
- To make a personalized mug not cheesy, swap the slogan for a detail: "World's Greatest Dad" could be anyone's dad; "Pancake Saturdays, Dad" is yours. One true detail beats any amount of sentiment.
- Should I put a photo or words on a mug?
- A photo suits grandparents, new parents and pet people; words suit inside jokes, dates and places. On a Personalized Gifts Delivered mug a photo or design prints up to about 3 in tall, on one side or both sides, so crop close to the faces.
- Can I put a school or sports team logo on a personalized mug?
- Leave school and team logos off a personalized mug: they're trademarks their owners license. The University of Tennessee, Knoxville, for example, says its trademark licensing program "protects the use of the university's names, logos, slogans, insignias, symbols, and mascots." Use your own words instead, like a class year or a team nickname you made up.
- Where can I order a personalized mug with a short message, shipped as a gift?
- Personalized Gifts Delivered prints a name or a few words (in one of 3 fonts), or a photo, on an 11 oz white ceramic mug and ships it to their door as a finished gift box for $35 delivered, with Ghirardelli hot cocoa, 4 Lindt LINDOR milk chocolate truffles and your printed card. You see the mug and the card in the preview before you pay.
