The traditional US list, as Wikipedia compiles it from an almanac, an encyclopedia and a library list, with an idea for each that travels by mail:

Count the years from their wedding date. A 1986 wedding has its 40th in 2026; a 1976 wedding has its 50th.

The wedding-photo mug: getting an old print onto a mug

On a Personalized Gifts Delivered mug, a photo prints up to about 3 in tall, on one side or both sides. Printful's guide says "use 300 DPI" for mugs, so by that advice a 3 in print wants about 900 pixels of height. Our guidance, in order:

1. Find the original print, or a copy from whoever has the album. A phone photo of an album page can pick up glare from the plastic sleeve.
2. Scan it at 300 dpi or more. A 4 × 6 in print at 300 dpi is 1,200 × 1,800 pixels.
3. Crop to the two of them. Faces fill the print; the whole wedding party at 3 in tall makes every face tiny.
4. Black and white is fine. It prints in black and grey. The mug can't print white, so white in the photo (the dress, the sky) shows the mug's own white.
5. Check the preview. Below 200 pixels per inch at the size it prints (under 600 pixels tall for an upright or square photo, under 700 across for a wide one), our order page warns that it may print a little soft.

Words instead? One line of up to 30 characters, in a choice of 3 fonts (our suggestion: 25 or fewer, since a long line prints smaller): "Since 1986", "Raj & Meera, 1986", "40 Years, Still Dancing", "Mr. & Mrs. Ortiz, 1976". More on what prints well: the photo mug guide.

One box or two?

A mug each lets them both use it at the same time. Timing it from across the country

Mailed gifts have no exact delivery day, so send it early and let the card hold it for the day. Ships by USPS Ground Advantage or UPS Ground, with tracking, and usually arrives 2–5 business days after it ships. Delivery dates are carrier estimates, not guarantees, and run slower in mid-December.

Our suggestion: order about two weeks before the date, write "Open on the day" at the top of the card (it lies on the lid, so they read it first), and plan a video call for the evening. What to write in the card from the kids

Name the years, name one memory, and thank them for the example. The card is printed (not handwritten) on a textured card and holds up to 300 characters. One message and one sign-off go on every card in the order; the sign-off ("Love, Anita, Dev and the grandkids") is its own line on the order page, so leave it out of the message. Lines to adapt:

• "Open on the day! Happy 40th, Mom and Dad. Forty years, three kids, two dogs and one very loud kitchen. We'll call at 7."
• "Happy anniversary, {first name}. Thank you for showing us what staying looks like. Make two cocoas and pick up when we call."
• "Fifty years ago today you said yes. We're all here because of it. Happy golden anniversary. The mugs are so you never share a cup."
• "We can't be there to raise a glass, so raise a mug. Happy anniversary from all of us, from three time zones away."

Can you put an anniversary box together yourself?

Yes: you can order a printed mug and mail it to them yourself, and for one gift the printed mug and counter postage alone cost $28.46, before the cocoa, truffles, gift box, tissue or card (DIY cost comparison, as of Oct 29, 2026). Then you shop for the rest, often from several stores, and wait a week or more for the printed mug; pack it so the handle and the rim survive; and stand in line at the counter early enough to beat the date. A mug packed without a collar can break at the handle and must be bought, packed and shipped again. A mug each doubles all of it. For scale, by our estimate 25 mug gift boxes take about 9 hours of hands-on work.
