Key facts

• Both days fall on a weekend in 2027, and Monday, February 15 is Washington's Birthday, a federal holiday (OPM). Friday, February 12 is the last business day before them.
• Friends and coworkers are on the list. In the 2026 survey by the National Retail Federation, a retail trade association, "one-third (33%) of consumers plan to purchase gifts for friends", and 21% for co-workers (NRF, January 27, 2026).
• Candy leads. "Candy remains the most popular Valentine's Day gift, with 56% of consumers planning to purchase candy" (same survey).
• Galentine's Day came from TV: a 2010 episode of Parks and Recreation, and it "is typically marked as February 13, but can be observed any day" (Wikipedia).
• Planners search early for this one. For "valentines day gifts", 49% of the 8-week run-up's US searches came two or more weeks before the day, 2022–2026 (our Google Trends study).

When Are Valentine's and Galentine's Day 2027? The Weekend Trap

The trap is that three days in a row don't count. Our delivery estimate is in business days, Monday to Friday without federal holidays:

Ships within 2 business days of a complete order (your design, your address list and payment). Ships by USPS Ground Advantage or UPS Ground, with tracking, and usually arrives 2–5 business days after it ships. Delivery dates are carrier estimates, not guarantees, and run slower in mid-December.

So pick Friday, February 12 as the day it should be there, and count back at least 7 business days: 2 to ship, plus 5 at the slow end of the estimate. Before you pay, the order page shows the date your order ships by and the date it is expected by, as a carrier estimate, if you pay that day. There's no way to pick a ship date; the day you order is the day you choose.

The good news is in the search data. Valentine's planners start earlier than planners for the named appreciation days in our study: for "valentines day gifts", the peak came in the week before the final week in 3 of 5 years, and only 24% of the run-up's searches came in the final week (our study). You're not alone if you're reading this in January.

Mugs Worth Keeping: Photo, Initials or a Few Words

Emily Post's Valentine's advice on chocolate is the advice for the whole gift: "Everyone loves chocolates. But to sweeten your gift, look for ways to personalize it and make it a little more unexpected" (Emily Post). A mug is the part that stays after the chocolate is gone, so what's printed on it is what makes it worth keeping (our view).

Galentine's Day: One Order, Every Friend's Address

Galentine's Day is for friends, and friends scatter. Wikipedia's article on the day says it began with Parks and Recreation's main character, Leslie Knope, calling it a holiday for "ladies celebrating ladies", in an episode first aired in 2010, and that it "can be observed any day." That last part helps in 2027: with February 13 on a Saturday, a gift timed for Friday still counts.

Coworkers are a real part of the day. The NRF's 2026 survey found that 21% of consumers planned to buy gifts for co-workers, totaling $1.7 billion, and its vice president of industry and consumer insights said "middle- and high-income shoppers" were "expanding their gift lists to include friends, co-workers and even pets in addition to loved ones" (NRF).

Two rules from etiquette and HR writers keep it easy:

• Bring enough for the office. Emily Post, on chocolate for a partner who works in an office: "send enough for his or her officemates" (Emily Post).
• Keep romance out of it. SHRM's 2014 article on workplace gift rules reports the advice of a shareholder at the law firm Ogletree Deakins: "Shun gifts that have romantic, sexual or religious overtones." The same article lists "Coffee mugs or tumblers" among the workplace-appropriate gifts its experts suggested (SHRM).

A mug with a coworker's first name, cocoa and a thank-you that names something they did fits both rules. Hearts and "be mine" don't (our suggestion).

Why Not to Send Clients Valentines

Valentine's Day is about partners first. In the NRF's 2026 survey, 55% of consumers planned to celebrate, and "Most of those celebrating (83%) plan to purchase a gift for a significant other." A Valentine from a business borrows that meaning, and the SHRM advice above to "Shun gifts that have romantic, sexual or religious overtones" was written about gifts at work.
