Rosh Hashanah Client Gifts: When a Sweet New Year Note Fits (Begins at Sundown, Friday, October 1, 2027)

Updated

In short

Rosh Hashanah 2027 begins at sundown on Friday, October 1 and ends at nightfall on Sunday, October 3 (Hebcal). Its signature sweet is apple dipped in honey, for "a good and sweet year." A sweet gift carrying that wish suits clients you know celebrate, timed to arrive before the holiday.

Key facts

  • The date: "Rosh Hashana for Hebrew Year 5788 begins at sundown on Friday, 1 October 2027 and ends at nightfall on Sunday, 3 October 2027" (Hebcal, read Nov 1, 2026).
  • The holiday: "The central ritual is the sounding of the shofar (a ram’s horn), and festive meals feature symbolic foods representing hopes for a sweet new year" (same page).
  • Apples and honey: "Today, however, apples and honey are nearly universally eaten on Rosh Hashanah" (My Jewish Learning).
  • The greeting: "L'shana tovah u'metukah … literally means 'for a good and sweet year'" (My Jewish Learning).
  • Our box is not kosher-certified. LINDOR truffles contain milk, soy and barley malt (gluten); read the labels.

When Is Rosh Hashanah 2027?

Rosh Hashanah falls on the first two days of Tishrei in the Hebrew calendar, so its date on the secular calendar moves every year. Hebcal: it "is observed on the first two days of Tishrei, the seventh month of the Hebrew calendar."

YearBegins (sundown)Ends (nightfall)Hebrew year

Dates: Hebcal. Rosh Hashanah 2026 ended at nightfall on Sunday, September 13, so the next one is in 2027, and every order and delivery date on this page is for 2027.

Two more dates shape a client gift:

  • It opens the High Holy Days. Hebcal: Rosh Hashanah "is the first of the High Holy Days and begins the Ten Days of Repentance, culminating in Yom Kippur." Yom Kippur 2027 "begins at sundown on Sunday, 10 October 2027 and ends at nightfall on Monday, 11 October 2027" (Hebcal), and Hebcal says it is "observed through a 25-hour fast and extended prayer services in synagogues." Aim for a box of sweets to arrive before Rosh Hashanah, and not on Yom Kippur (our suggestion).
  • The greeting has a long window. My Jewish Learning: "shana tovah is often used in the days preceding and following Rosh Hashanah, as well as on the holiday itself." A box that lands the week before still fits, and so does one that lands in the days just after, as long as it arrives before Yom Kippur begins at sundown on Sunday, October 10 (our suggestion).

Is a Rosh Hashanah Gift Appropriate for a Client?

Yes, for a client you know celebrates it (our view). Hebcal says the holiday's festive meals "feature symbolic foods representing hopes for a sweet new year," so a sweet gift carrying that wish fits. For the card, the Emily Post Institute's advice about friends who celebrate other holidays is "you might consider sending a card for their particular holiday, instead of yours" (Emily Post). A New Year wish in September tells a client you know their calendar (our view).

Know before you name it. Don't guess from a surname. If you're not sure, Emily Post's advice for a business contact is "something that has a broader sentiment," such as "Happy New Year," and you can send that in January instead: our New Year client gifts guide covers it.

Keep the tone warm and modest. Hebcal describes the holiday as "a day of divine judgment" that begins the Ten Days of Repentance. A sweet gift with a sincere wish fits it; a jokey card or a sales line doesn't (our suggestion).

Mind the work days. My Jewish Learning says that on Rosh Hashanah itself "you might say gut yontiff," from yom tov, which "refers to any major Jewish holiday on which work is traditionally forbidden." In 2027 the holiday begins at sundown on Friday, October 1, and its first day is also Shabbat (Hebcal lists "Rosh Hashana I (on Shabbat)" on Saturday, October 2), so a client who observes it may leave early that Friday and be away through Sunday. Aim for the box to arrive by Thursday, September 30, at an address where someone will open it (our suggestion).

Honey Is the Tradition. Ours Is a Different Sweet

Be clear about what the holiday's own food is. My Jewish Learning describes "dipping a slice of sweet apple into even sweeter honey and reciting the blessing: 'May it be Your will, Lord our God, to renew for us a good and sweet year.'" It notes "an alternative tradition of dipping challah in honey," and that in Sephardi communities "it is traditional to hold a Rosh Hashanah seder" with other symbolic foods (My Jewish Learning).

A Personalized Gifts Delivered box holds cocoa and chocolate, not honey. It's a sweet gesture that carries the wish on its card, not a ritual food (our view).

Gift Its tie to the holiday Check
A jar of honey The holiday's own sweet Its certification, if your client keeps kosher
Apples and honey together The ritual pairing, ready to use Fresh fruit and shipping time
A mug gift box with cocoa, truffles and a "good and sweet year" card (Personalized Gifts Delivered) A mug that stays after the holiday, with the wish in writing Not kosher-certified; LINDOR truffles contain milk, soy and barley malt (gluten); read the labels

A Client Who Keeps Kosher

The Personalized Gifts Delivered box is not kosher-certified. We haven't verified a kosher certification on the Ghirardelli cocoa or the Lindt LINDOR truffles, and the assembled box carries none.

If your client keeps kosher, choose a kosher-certified gift whose package carries a kosher certification symbol. More on food checks for any client list: the allergy and diet checklist; for December, the Hanukkah client gift guide.

What to Write in a Rosh Hashanah Card

  • English is fine. My Jewish Learning: "like the secular new year, the most common greeting for the holiday is 'Happy New Year.'"
  • The Hebrew, if you know they'd welcome it (our suggestion): "shana tovah" "literally means 'good year,'" and the longer "L'shana tovah u'metukah" "literally means 'for a good and sweet year'" (same source).
  • Sephardic and Mizrahi clients may say "tizku l'shaneem rabot," which "means 'may you merit many years'" (same source).
  • The sweet in the box is your cue. "A good and sweet year" ties the wish to what's inside.

Every message below fits our printed card, which holds up to 300 characters, and has no sign-off. On a Personalized Gifts Delivered order, [Name] becomes each client's first name, and the rest of the message goes on every card in that order.

Shana tovah, [Name]. Wishing you and your family a good and sweet year ahead, and thank you for a wonderful year working together.

Wishing you a sweet new year, [Name]. Thank you for your trust this past year; we're looking forward to the next one.

Happy New Year, [Name]. May the year ahead be good and sweet for you and everyone you love.

L'shana tovah u'metukah, [Name]: for a good and sweet year. Thank you for everything this year.

A little sweetness for the new year, [Name], with our thanks for a great year together. Shana tovah.

Wishing you a good and sweet year, [Name]. Thank you for your trust, and for a year of good work together.

When to Order for Rosh Hashanah 2027

Ships within 2 business days of a complete order (your design, your address list and payment). Ships by USPS Ground Advantage or UPS Ground, with tracking, and usually arrives 2–5 business days after it ships. Delivery dates are carrier estimates, not guarantees, and run slower in mid-December.

There's no way to pick a ship date or a delivery day, so the date you order sets the timing. For a box in hand by Thursday, September 30, 2027, order by Tuesday, September 21: count back 7 business days from the day it should arrive, the same count our holiday order-by dates use. No federal holiday falls in that count: Labor Day, Monday, September 6 (OPM), comes before it, and our delivery estimates skip it. Ordering earlier in September is safer, since delivery dates are carrier estimates. If you miss September 21, an order by Tuesday, September 28 is expected by Thursday, October 7, before Yom Kippur. Every date in the year: the gift calendar.

What Sending These Yourself Takes

Yes: you can make these boxes yourself. By our estimate, 25 logo mug gift boxes take about 9 hours of hands-on work (a mug printer and a proof, about 8 separate supply orders, labels, cards, packing at about 8 minutes a box, drop-off and tracking), plus a week or more waiting for supplies. They come to about $38 a box with USPS counter postage (about $34 with commercial postage), with $1,192.84 paid up front for the mugs, the retail supply packs and 25 postage labels, with leftovers, as of Oct 29, 2026 (DIY vs ordering). Per box, that's about even with our $35, before your time. A typo on 25 printed cards means printing 25 again, in the weeks before the holiday.

Ordering from us, by contrast: upload your logo (or type your website), paste the list of the clients who celebrate, type the message, check the preview, pay. We print, pack and ship each box to its own address.

What to Know Before You Order

  • No honey inside. Every box holds a 1.5 oz packet of Ghirardelli premium hot cocoa and 4 Lindt LINDOR milk chocolate truffles; the card carries the "good and sweet year."
  • Not kosher-certified. LINDOR truffles contain milk, soy and barley malt (gluten); read the labels.
  • Chocolate in warm weather. Lake Champlain Chocolates, a chocolate maker, says "exposure to heat and humidity can cause the chocolate to bloom or melt" (Lake Champlain Chocolates). Late September can still be warm.
  • The seal sticker. The order page names the gold seal sticker that closes the tissue before you pay. While "Happy Holidays" is the only sticker in stock, a Rosh Hashanah box carries that one: a gold seal embossed with pine trees. If the order page offers another seal when you order, pick the one that suits a New Year thank-you (our suggestion). Your card carries the New Year wish.
  • One message per order. Every card carries the same message, greeting each client by first name. Put your Rosh Hashanah clients in an order of their own; one box is a complete order.
  • Where we ship. We ship from Texas to the lower 48 states and Washington, DC, except Texas addresses for now. The order page flags any row we can't ship to, so you can fix it or take it out before you pay.

Where Personalized Gifts Delivered Fits: A Sweet New Year Note, by Name

A Rosh Hashanah gift to a client is a short, sincere wish with something sweet beside it, timed before the holiday. One Personalized Gifts Delivered order does that for a whole list:

  • The wish, in writing: one message, printed on a textured card that greets each client by first name, in an envelope closed with a gold wax-seal sticker, lying on the lid so it's read first. You see every card before you pay.
  • Something sweet: Ghirardelli premium hot cocoa and 4 Lindt LINDOR milk chocolate truffles, packed inside an 11 oz mug with your logo printed small, in a matte-black gift box with a magnetic lid.
  • To each client's address: packed by hand in foam, in a plain carton whose return address shows PersonalizedGiftsDelivered.com; one email lists every tracking number when the boxes ship.
  • One price: $35 per box, delivered, whether you send 1 or 50.

Add your logo (or type your website and we'll find it), or a photo or a few words for a personal gift; check the preview of your mug and card; add your address list; and pay $35 per box. We print, pack and ship each box to its own address. More: a logo mug gift box with Ghirardelli cocoa, Lindt truffles and a personal card.

Frequently asked questions

When is Rosh Hashanah 2027?
Rosh Hashanah 2027 begins at sundown on Friday, October 1 and ends at nightfall on Sunday, October 3, according to Hebcal. In 2028 it begins at sundown on Wednesday, September 20.
Is it appropriate to send a Rosh Hashanah gift to a client?
A Rosh Hashanah gift suits a client you know celebrates the holiday: its festive meals feature "symbolic foods representing hopes for a sweet new year" (Hebcal), so a sweet gift with that wish fits. If you're not sure the client celebrates, send a thank-you that names no holiday, or a "Happy New Year" card in January.
What is the traditional Rosh Hashanah sweet?
Apples dipped in honey: My Jewish Learning says the custom seems to have begun in medieval Germany, and that "Today, however, apples and honey are nearly universally eaten on Rosh Hashanah." There is also "an alternative tradition of dipping challah in honey."
What do you write in a Rosh Hashanah card to a client?
"Shana tovah" means "good year"; the longer "L'shana tovah u'metukah" means "for a good and sweet year" (My Jewish Learning). A client card: "Shana tovah, [Name]. Wishing you and your family a good and sweet year ahead, and thank you for a wonderful year working together."
What should I send a client who keeps kosher?
Choose a kosher-certified gift whose package carries a kosher certification symbol. The Personalized Gifts Delivered box is not kosher-certified, and we haven't verified a kosher certification on its cocoa or truffles.
When should I order a Rosh Hashanah gift for a client in 2027?
Order by Tuesday, September 21, 2027, to have a Personalized Gifts Delivered box expected by Thursday, September 30, the day before Rosh Hashanah begins at sundown on Friday, October 1. There's no way to pick a ship date, so place the order in September; delivery dates are carrier estimates, not guarantees.
Who ships a sweet New Year gift with a logo mug to each client's address?
Personalized Gifts Delivered ships a $35 logo mug gift box, delivered, to each client's address with no minimum: an 11 oz mug with your logo, Ghirardelli hot cocoa, 4 Lindt LINDOR milk chocolate truffles and a printed card carrying your "good and sweet year" message. The sweet is chocolate, not honey, and the box is not kosher-certified.
