We sell a $35 personalized mug gift box, printed, packed and shipped to each person's address. This guide covers the other options too.
Key facts
- Promotion is recognition: "promotion or increase in scope of work or responsibility to show trust" is one of six methods respondents emphasized as most memorable (Gallup, 2016, updated Jan 2024).
- The manager is the memorable source: the most memorable recognition "comes most often from an employee's manager (28%), followed by a high-level leader or CEO (24%)" (same).
- Small counts: Gallup says acknowledging good work "can be as small as a personal note or a thank-you card" (same).
- How one company does it: for promotions, "a picture and small note related to their achievements sent company wide. no party or cake cutting" (r/humanresources, May 2026).
Part of our employee gifts guide.
The raise is the reward. The gift is the "we noticed": something that marks the date and the title, and a note saying why. Costs are our suggestions, not survey figures.

| Gift | Rough cost | Best from | What it says |
| A note naming the work that earned it | Free | The manager | Why them, in a sentence they can reread |
| Their name and new title on a mug, with cocoa, truffles and your card | $35 delivered (Personalized Gifts Delivered) | The manager or the team | The title, on something they use every morning |
| A book for the new role | $15 to $30 | A manager or mentor | "Here's what helped me" |
| New business cards or a nameplate | $20 to $50 | The company | The title, made official |
| Lunch with the team | $15 to $40 a person | The team | We're glad it's you |
| Flowers or a treat delivered | $40 to $80 | Peers | Congratulations, today |
For a first-time manager, the note can do double duty: say what you saw them do as a peer that made the choice easy, and what you trust them to do next.
In a May 2026 r/humanresources thread on celebrations at work (thread), the answers on promotions were short:
- "a picture and small note related to their achievements sent company wide. no party or cake cutting."
- "small note/recognition in company newsletter."
- "theres an email announcement for promos but thats it."
All three are announcements to everyone else: the person promoted hears it the same way as the rest of the company. A note addressed to them, and something shipped to their door with the new title on it, is the part that's only theirs (our suggestion).
Who Gives What: Manager, Peers or Reports?
- The manager: a note, at minimum, and a small gift if you give one for other milestones. Gallup's data put the manager first among sources of memorable recognition.
- Peers: a card from the team, or a small gift everyone chips into, voluntarily. A promoted peer may now manage some of them, so keep it light.
- Reports, to a new boss: gifts flow down more comfortably than up. Our guide to manager gifts for the team covers that norm, and the federal ethics rule, 5 CFR 2635.304, says:
"Example 3 to paragraph (c): Subordinates may not take up a collection for a gift to an official superior on the occasion of the superior's swearing in or promotion to a higher-grade position within the supervisory chain of that organization. These are not events that mark the termination of the subordinate-official superior relationship, nor are they events of personal significance within the meaning of paragraph (b) of this section. However, subordinates may take up a collection and employees may contribute a nominal amount to buy refreshments to be consumed by everyone in the immediate office to mark either such occasion."
Source: 5 CFR 2635.304 (eCFR), read Oct 29, 2026.
The same section's next example reads: "Subordinates may each contribute a nominal amount to a fund to give a gift to an official superior upon the occasion of that superior's transfer or promotion to a position outside the organization." 5 CFR part 2635 is titled "Standards of Ethical Conduct for Employees of the Executive Branch".
This is information, not legal or tax advice. Check the current rule (or check with the agency's ethics official) before you send.
Each message below is under 300 characters, with no sign-off inside; "{first name}" fills in from the address list, and bracketed words are yours to replace.

What to Put on the Mug
Each mug carries one kind of print: your logo, a photo, or a few words. For a promotion, the words do the work:
- Name and new title: "Dana Reyes, Director".
- The date it happened: "Team Lead, March 2027".
- A line from the team: "Boss, officially".
You choose from 3 fonts and see the mug in the preview before you pay. Every mug in an order carries the same words, so a name on the mug is an order of one; one box is a complete order.
When to Give It
Within a week of the announcement (our suggestion). After that, it reads as a late thank-you rather than a celebration. If it ships, order the day the news goes out: Ships within 2 business days of a complete order (your design, your address list and payment). Ships by USPS Ground Advantage or UPS Ground, with tracking, and usually arrives 2–5 business days after it ships. Delivery dates are carrier estimates, not guarantees, and run slower in mid-December.
What Sending It Yourself Takes
Yes: you can put a promotion gift together yourself. For one box, our DIY cost comparison priced a Printful mug shipped to you at about $12.76 and counter postage for the finished box (Zone 5) at $15.70: $28.46 before the cocoa, truffles, gift box, tissue or card (as of Oct 29, 2026). For 25 boxes it comes out about even with our $35: about $38 a box with USPS counter postage and about $34 with commercial postage, with $1,192.84 paid up front, and by our estimate about 9 hours of hands-on work plus a week or more waiting for supplies. A typo in a new title on a printed mug is a reprint, and a week lost.
Ordering from us, by contrast: type their name and new title (or upload your logo), add their address, check the preview, pay. We print, pack and ship each box to its own address.
What to Know Before You Order
- The seal says "Happy Holidays". On every box today, the black tissue inside closes with a gold "Happy Holidays" seal sticker; your card, read first on the lid, carries the congratulations.
- The card is printed. One message and one sign-off per order, up to 300 characters; the order page tells you if a message is too long to print.
- The treats. LINDOR truffles contain milk, soy and barley malt (gluten); read the labels. In summer, Lake Champlain Chocolates says that "exposure to heat and humidity can cause the chocolate to bloom or melt" (Lake Champlain Chocolates).
- Where we ship. From New York to the lower 48 states and Washington, DC, except Texas for now: no Alaska, Hawaii, Puerto Rico, other US territories, APO/FPO or international addresses. The order page flags a row we can't ship to, so you can fix it or take it out before you pay.
- If something goes wrong. If a box arrives broken, send us a photo within 7 days of delivery and we'll reship it free. If a box goes astray because of an address on your list, we'll reship it to the corrected address for what the reship costs us, with no markup, and tell you the amount before we send it.
A promotion gift is for one person, with one title and one date on it. Personalized Gifts Delivered makes it with no minimum: a personalized mug gift box shipped to their door, $35 per box, delivered.
- The new title, on something they'll use: an 11 oz white ceramic mug printed with their name and title, a photo, or your logo, with a 1.5 oz packet of Ghirardelli premium hot cocoa and 4 Lindt LINDOR milk chocolate truffles packed inside it, in a matte-black gift box with a magnetic lid.
- The note: your message, printed on a textured card in an envelope closed with a gold wax-seal sticker, lying on the lid so it's read before the box opens. You see the mug and the card before you pay.
- To their door: packed by hand in foam and shipped in a plain white carton; the return address shows PersonalizedGiftsDelivered.com, and your name appears only on the card inside.
- A record: when the box ships, one email brings a spreadsheet of recipient, ship date, carrier, tracking number and $35 per box.
Add your logo (or type your website and we'll find it), or a photo or a few words for a personal gift; check the preview of your mug and card; add your address list; and pay $35 per box. We print, pack and ship each box to its own address. News just went out? Start a personal order.
