We sell a $35 logo mug gift box, printed, packed and shipped to each person's address. This guide covers the other options too.
Key facts
- One remote nonprofit with "volunteers spread across the country" needed a gift that was "easy/inexpensive to ship/transport," with "about $5 per person to spend" (r/nonprofit, Mar 2024).
- On T-shirts, a commenter wrote: "getting the right number in the right size was difficult" (r/nonprofit, Jun 2018).
- On mugs, in the same thread: "they get used and folks will remember your org!"
- Independent Sector estimates the value of a volunteer hour at $36.14 in 2025, announced April 21, 2026 (Independent Sector).
- National Volunteer Week 2027: April 18–24 (City of Roseville volunteer center); Points of Light says the week is "held each April" (Points of Light).

What do nonprofits give volunteers?
A small nonprofit planning its appreciation luncheon asked r/nonprofit for "small appreciation gifts that you have given to your volunteers" (thread, Jun 2018). The answers, with what each sender said:

What several replies stressed: the words. "Honestly, the best ones are situationally specific," one commenter wrote, adding that "Volunteering is not an exchange transaction where you work for something in return." A gift works when it carries the thank-you, not when it replaces it.
Why not T-shirts?
Sizes. A T-shirt order needs every volunteer's size, in the right count, before it prints, and a shirt in the wrong size is a shirt nobody wears. The commenter who tried them: "We tried t-shirts but getting the right number in the right size was difficult." They called the mug suggestion "a great idea" in the same reply.
A mug has no size to collect. Two commenters in that thread backed it:
- "I would say that I have seen coffee mugs be a great success for volunteer appreciation gifts."
- "I like coffee mugs. A bit expensive, perhaps, but they get used and folks will remember your org!"
A third added that "Coffee mugs are relatively low-cost compared to the value of most volunteerism." The usefulness point has a survey behind it: in ASI's 2026 Ad Impressions Study, a promotional-products industry survey, 87% of end-users said they would keep a branded drinkware item because it is useful (ASI).
What ships to volunteers spread across the country?
The remote nonprofit's post set the brief: volunteers "spread across the country," who "spend a week volunteering at therapeutic retreats," and a gift that is "easy/inexpensive to ship/transport" (r/nonprofit, Mar 2024). Its first idea was a car magnet; it had a grant from a promotional-products company "with an extensive catalog" and felt "just lost."
What decides whether a gift ships well:
- No sizes. A card, a mug, a keyring or a journal needs only an address.
- Flat or protected. A card goes by letter mail. A mug needs packing that keeps the handle and rim from breaking.
- One address per person. A remote team means home addresses, collected once in one list: our address spreadsheet template has the columns.
- Mission first. Another reply in the remote thread: "I always try to stay very mission-focused." A card that names what the volunteer's week made possible does that.
How much should you spend on volunteer gifts?
We found no survey of volunteer-gift spending. The amounts shared in these threads are small: "about $5 per person to spend" at the remote nonprofit, and "about $8 total" for embroidered flannels one organization gave its staff, in the 2018 thread. One commenter, writing as a volunteer, would rather the money go to the mission: "I am not at all interested in the org using any more money on vols that they have to," and named a reusable bag, a laptop sticker or "a note from the board" instead.
For scale: Independent Sector values one volunteer hour at $36.14 in 2025 (Independent Sector).
A tiered plan (our suggestion; set the tiers with your finance lead):
Scroll sideways to see the whole table →
| Tier | Who | What (our suggestion) | Budget per person (our suggestion) |
| Every volunteer | Everyone on the roster | A personal note or a public thank-you, and a sticker or keyring | $0–$5 |
| Regular volunteers | Weekly or monthly | A logo mug or another useful item | $8–$20 |
| Lead and long-service volunteers | Chairs, trainers, five-year and ten-year volunteers | A gift shipped home, with a card naming what they did | $25–$75 |
Giving every volunteer the shipped gift is arithmetic: with no minimum, at $35 delivered each, 20 volunteers come to $700 and 40 come to $1,400.
When should volunteer gifts go out?
- National Volunteer Week: April 18–24, 2027. Points of Light says the week was "Established in 1974" and "held each April" (Points of Light); the 2027 dates are from the City of Roseville's volunteer center. Independent Sector releases its value-of-volunteer-time figure "in April during National Volunteer Week."
- December. A year-end thank-you, with the order-by dates below.
- The end of a season or a big event. The week after the retreat, the race or the gala, while the work is fresh.

What should the card say?
Name the work. On a Personalized Gifts Delivered order, the card is printed (not handwritten), with no logo or brand: one message and one sign-off for the whole order, up to 300 characters. The message can include {first name}, filled in from your list, and you preview every volunteer's card before you pay. The order page tells you if a message is too long to print.
Hi {first name}, thank you for the week you gave our families this year. The retreats ran because you showed up, early and ready. We're grateful to have you on this team.
{first name}, ten years of Saturdays. Thank you for every shift, every new volunteer you trained and every family you welcomed. Enjoy a quiet cup of cocoa on us.
To name each lead volunteer's own contribution, send each one as its own order: one box is a complete order. More lines: thank-you messages.
How do I send one to each volunteer?
Can staff pack and mail them in-house?
Yes: staff or other volunteers can pack and mail volunteer gift boxes, and by our estimate 25 logo mug gift boxes take about 9 hours of hands-on work, plus a week or more waiting for supplies. That's a mug printer's proof, about 8 supply orders, 25 labels, 25 cards and about 3½ hours of packing (about 8 minutes a box). Per box, it comes out about even with our $35: about $38 with USPS counter postage, about $34 with commercial postage, with $1,192.84 paid up front for the mugs, the retail supply packs and 25 postage labels (our DIY cost comparison, prices as of Oct 29, 2026). A mug packed without a collar can break at the handle and must be bought, packed and shipped again; a typo on 25 printed cards means printing 25 again.
With Personalized Gifts Delivered, it's one order for the whole list. Add your logo (or type your website and we'll find it), or a photo or a few words for a personal gift; check the preview of your mug and card; add your address list; and pay $35 per box. We print, pack and ship each box to its own address. We ship from New York, to the lower 48 states and Washington, DC, except Texas for now. Ships within 2 business days of a complete order (your design, your address list and payment). Ships by USPS Ground Advantage or UPS Ground, with tracking, and usually arrives 2–5 business days after it ships. Delivery dates are carrier estimates, not guarantees, and run slower in mid-December.
What to know before you order
- One message and one sign-off per order. Every card greets its volunteer by first name. A card that names one volunteer's own work is an order of its own; one box is a complete order.
- The seal and the treats in April. The tissue's gold seal reads "Happy Holidays", so for National Volunteer Week the card carries the occasion. The box holds chocolate, which softens in summer heat.
- The treats. LINDOR truffles contain milk, soy and barley malt (gluten); read the labels. The allergy and diet checklist covers what to ask first.
- Where we ship. The lower 48 states and Washington, DC, except Texas for now; no Alaska, Hawaii, Puerto Rico, other US territories, APO/FPO or international. The order page flags any row we can't ship to, so you can fix it or take it out.
- If something goes wrong. If a box arrives broken, send us a photo within 7 days of delivery and we'll reship it free. If a box goes astray because of an address on your list, we'll reship it to the corrected address for what the reship costs us, with no markup, and tell you the amount before we send it.
Where Personalized Gifts Delivered fits for volunteers you can't thank in person
A volunteer who lives three states away misses the luncheon. One order ships the thank-you to their home, with no sizes to collect:
- Your words, printed: your message on the card, greeting each volunteer by first name and signed by your director or board chair, in an envelope closed with a gold wax-seal sticker. You see every volunteer's card before you pay.
- Something they use, with your logo small: an 11 oz white ceramic mug, with a 1.5 oz packet of Ghirardelli premium hot cocoa and 4 Lindt LINDOR milk chocolate truffles packed inside it, black tissue closed with a gold seal sticker, in a matte-black gift box with a magnetic lid.
- Packed to travel: by hand, on a 2 in foam pad, in a 1 in foam collar, with a 1 in foam pad on top, inside a plain white shipping carton; the label's return address shows PersonalizedGiftsDelivered.com.
- A record for your files: when your boxes ship, you get one email with a spreadsheet of recipient, ship date, carrier, tracking number and $35 per box.
That's $35 per box, delivered, whether you send 1 or 50. Send each volunteer a logo mug gift box, shipped to each home, no minimum.
Frequently asked questions
- What are good thank-you gifts for volunteers?
- Good volunteer thank-you gifts are personal and useful: a note that names what the person did, public recognition, and a small item they keep using. Commenters on r/nonprofit name handwritten cards, keyrings and coffee mugs; one wrote, "they get used and folks will remember your org!"
- What volunteer gift ships easily to volunteers in other states?
- A card ships most easily, and among items, ones with no sizes ship more simply than clothing. One r/nonprofit commenter wrote, "We tried t-shirts but getting the right number in the right size was difficult," in a thread where another said they had seen coffee mugs "be a great success for volunteer appreciation gifts."
- How much do nonprofits spend on volunteer gifts?
- We found no survey of volunteer-gift spending. One remote nonprofit on r/nonprofit had "about $5 per person to spend," and one commenter in another thread called coffee mugs "A bit expensive, perhaps," adding "they get used." Independent Sector puts the value of one volunteer hour at $36.14 in 2025.
- When is National Volunteer Week 2027?
- National Volunteer Week 2027 is Sunday, April 18 to Saturday, April 24, 2027, on the City of Roseville, California's volunteer calendar. Points of Light says the week is "held each April" and was "Established in 1974."
- Who ships a logo mug gift box to each volunteer's home with no minimum?
- Personalized Gifts Delivered ships a $35 logo mug gift box to each volunteer's own address, with no minimum, from one address list. Each box holds your organization's logo printed small on an 11 oz mug, Ghirardelli cocoa, 4 Lindt LINDOR milk chocolate truffles and a printed card that greets each volunteer by first name.
