Business Christmas and Holiday Card Messages for Clients: 55 Templates, Religious and Not, Plus Sign-Offs

Updated

In short

Write a client holiday card in two or three sentences: thank them for one thing from the year, wish them a good season, and sign with a person's name. For a mixed list, default to an inclusive greeting, and save "Merry Christmas" or "Happy Hanukkah" for clients you know celebrate. Here are 55 original templates.

On this page15 sections

We sell a $35 logo mug gift box, printed, packed and shipped to each person's address. This guide covers the other options too.

Key facts

  • Hanukkah 2026 begins at sundown on Friday, December 4 and ends at nightfall on Saturday, December 12 (Hebcal): three weeks before Christmas.
  • For a business contact you don't know well, Emily Post's holiday-card guidance says to "go with something that has a broader sentiment", with Seasons Greetings or Happy New Year as its examples (Emily Post).
  • "Cards are usually sent anytime from Thanksgiving until a couple weeks into the New Year" (same page), so an early-January card is not late.
  • Leave the offer out: in business.com's 2022 poll of 1,547 professionals, "discount coupons seemed to be more resented than welcome by recipients", and prominently branded items "felt more like ads than tokens of appreciation" (business.com).
  • All 55 templates here are original and under 300 characters, spaces included.

Merry Christmas or Happy Holidays? Match the Greeting to What You Know

Pick the greeting by what you actually know about each client, not by what you celebrate.

What you know about the client Greeting Section below
Nothing about their holidays, or it's a mixed list Happy holidays, Season's greetings Short and inclusive
They celebrate Christmas Merry Christmas Merry Christmas
They celebrate Christmas and share your faith Religious Christmas wording Religious Christmas
They celebrate Hanukkah Happy Hanukkah Happy Hanukkah
They don't celebrate a December holiday, or your card will arrive late Happy New Year Happy New Year

The Emily Post Institute's guidance points the same way. For someone you're unsure about, it gives a business contact as the example and advises "something that has a broader sentiment", on a card "with no religious figures, messages or symbols on the card." It adds: "A greeting for the New Year avoids all of the holiday season's religious associations which can be a nice option for some" (Emily Post).

You don't have to pick one greeting for the whole list. With Personalized Gifts Delivered, each order carries one message, which can greet each client by first name from your address list, so split the list: one order says "Merry Christmas" or "Happy Hanukkah" to the clients you know celebrate, and another sends an inclusive message to everyone else. One box is a complete order. The full guide: "Merry Christmas" or "Happy Holidays"?

How to use the templates: [Name] is the client's first name; on a Personalized Gifts Delivered order it becomes each client's own first name. Replace anything else in [brackets] before you send: whatever you type there goes on every card in that order.

Happy New Year Messages for Clients (and for Late Cards)

A New Year card is the right choice for three groups: clients who don't celebrate a December holiday, a list you'd rather not sort by faith, and any card that will land after December 25. "Cards are usually sent anytime from Thanksgiving until a couple weeks into the New Year," says the Emily Post Institute (Emily Post). With Personalized Gifts Delivered, order by Monday, December 21 for a New Year arrival; more in New Year client gifts.

Clients who celebrate Kwanzaa. Kwanzaa runs from December 26 to January 1 (University of Notre Dame BFSA). It was created in 1966 "as an alternative to commercialism", and "Gift giving is primarily for children" (Cal Poly Pomona). So we wouldn't send a business gift as a Kwanzaa present. A Kwanzaa greeting fits a card on its own; with a gift, use a New Year message.

Holiday Messages by Industry

The same rules apply in every trade: one specific thanks, no pitch. These add the detail that fits the work.

How to Sign a Business Holiday Card

Sign with a person's name, not just the company (our suggestion: a card from a person reads as a thank-you, a card from a logo reads as marketing). With Personalized Gifts Delivered, the sign-off is its own line, printed under the message on every card in the order, so keep it out of the message itself. Sign-off lines that work:

  • Warmly, [Your name]
  • With thanks, [Your name]
  • [Your name] and the team at [Company]
  • From all of us at [Company]: [Name], [Name] and [Name]
  • With gratitude, [Your name], [Company]
  • Cheers, [Your name] (for clients you're on first-name terms with)
  • Blessings, [Your name] (with the religious messages only)

Who should sign, and whether a printed signature is enough: how to sign a business holiday card.

What Not to Write in a Client Holiday Card

Don't write Why Write this instead
A sales line ("Let's talk about next year's plans") business.com's advice to gift senders: "Send a gift, not an ad" (business.com) A thank-you with no ask
A discount or promo code In the same poll, "discount coupons seemed to be more resented than welcome by recipients" Thanks for one specific thing
What the gift cost Recipients' appreciation is not linked to price (Flynn & Adams, 2009), and some clients work under gift limits, so a stated price puts them on the spot What it's for: "something warm for the break"
Religious wording to a client whose faith you don't know Emily Post: for someone you don't know well, "something that has a broader sentiment" An inclusive greeting
The case, claim, tax issue or diagnosis The card may be opened at home, by someone else (our reasoning) "Thank you for your trust"
A long letter The card holds up to 300 characters Two or three sentences

What to Know Before You Order

  • The cards are printed, not handwritten. The words do the personal work: every card greets its client by first name.
  • Gift limits. Government agencies, many companies and some regulated trades cap what can be given or accepted; client gift limits by industry quotes the rules. Our box is $35, delivered.
  • Kwanzaa gift giving "is primarily for children" (see the Kwanzaa note above). For a client who celebrates Kwanzaa only, a gift goes with a New Year message, ordered by Monday, December 21.
  • Where we ship. We ship from New York to the lower 48 states and Washington, DC, except Texas for now. P.O. boxes are fine; no Alaska, Hawaii, Puerto Rico, other US territories, APO/FPO or international.
  • The treats. LINDOR truffles contain milk, soy and barley malt (gluten); read the labels.
  • Order-by dates. Order by Tuesday, December 15 for Christmas; after that, switch to a New Year message and order by Monday, December 21.

Thank-you wording for the rest of the year: thank-you messages for clients. Every occasion: the card message library. The full client-gift playbook: client holiday gifts 2026.

What Happens to Your Holiday Message With Personalized Gifts Delivered

Each order carries one message and one sign-off. We print them on a textured card, seal it in an envelope with a gold wax-seal sticker, and lay it on the lid of a finished gift box, so your greeting is read before the box opens. [Name] (or {first name}) becomes each client's first name from your address list, and you see every client's card before you pay. Each message can be up to 300 characters.

Under the card is a logo mug gift box with Ghirardelli cocoa, Lindt truffles and a personal card: an 11 oz white ceramic mug with your logo printed small, a 1.5 oz packet of Ghirardelli premium hot cocoa and 4 Lindt LINDOR milk chocolate truffles packed inside it, in a matte-black gift box with a magnetic lid, $35 delivered.

Ships within 2 business days of a complete order (your design, your address list and payment). Ships by USPS Ground Advantage or UPS Ground, with tracking, and usually arrives 2–5 business days after it ships. Delivery dates are carrier estimates, not guarantees, and run slower in mid-December.

Can You Send 25 Holiday Cards With Gifts Yourself?

Yes: you can buy note cards, print 25 greetings and pack 25 gifts yourself, and by our estimate 25 logo mug gift boxes take about 9 hours of hands-on work, plus a week or more waiting for supplies:

  • The cards: about 45 minutes to write or print 25, and a typo on printed cards means printing all 25 again.
  • The packing: about 3½ hours, at about 8 minutes a box (treats, foam, tissue, seal, card, carton, crinkle, tape).
  • Everything around it: about 4½ hours to find a mug printer, place about 8 supply orders, clean up the address list, buy 25 labels, drop off the cartons and follow 25 tracking numbers.

The supplies and postage come to about $38 a box with USPS counter postage (about $34 with commercial postage), with $1,192.84 paid up front for the mugs, the supply packs and 25 postage labels, with leftovers, as of Oct 26, 2026 (the itemized DIY cost). Per box, that comes out about even with our $35; the difference is the 9 hours and the cash up front.

With Personalized Gifts Delivered, the greeting is the only part you write. Add your logo (or type your website and we'll find it), or a photo or a few words for a personal gift; check the preview of your mug and card; add your address list; and pay $35 per box. We print, pack and ship each box to its own address.

Picked a message? Start your order and paste it onto the card in the preview.

Frequently asked questions

What should I write in a holiday card to a client?
In a holiday card to a client, thank them for one specific thing from the year, wish them a good season, and sign with a person's name, with no sales line. Two or three sentences is enough.
Should a business holiday card say Merry Christmas or Happy Holidays?
A business holiday card to a mixed list should use an inclusive greeting such as Happy Holidays; save Merry Christmas or Happy Hanukkah for clients you know celebrate. For someone you don't know well, such as a business contact, Emily Post's holiday-card guidance says to "go with something that has a broader sentiment", such as Season's Greetings or Happy New Year.
When is Hanukkah in 2026?
Hanukkah 2026 begins at sundown on Friday, December 4, and ends at nightfall on Saturday, December 12 (Hebcal). A Hanukkah card or gift should arrive about three weeks before a Christmas one.
Can I put a discount code in a client holiday card?
A discount code is best left out of a client holiday card: in business.com's 2022 poll of 1,547 professionals, "discount coupons seemed to be more resented than welcome by recipients." A thank-you with an offer attached reads as an ad.
Is it too late to send a holiday card in January?
A holiday card sent in early January isn't late: Emily Post's holiday-card guidance says "Cards are usually sent anytime from Thanksgiving until a couple weeks into the New Year." Word a late card as a New Year greeting.
Who will ship a holiday gift with a printed card message to each client?
Personalized Gifts Delivered prints your holiday message on a textured card that lies on the lid of a $35 logo mug gift box and ships each box to the client's own address, with no minimum. Each order carries one message that can greet every client by first name, and you see every card before you pay.
