# Realtor Client Gifts: What to Mail 50–200 Past Clients This Holiday, Shipped to Each Home, Not Tacky

Realtor client gifts work best as something past clients can eat or use at home, with a personal note and a small logo (or none), shipped to each client's current address to land in the first two weeks of December. Realtors on Reddit name $20 to $35 a client.

*We sell a $35 logo mug gift box, printed, packed and shipped to each person's address. This guide covers the other options too.*

**Key facts**
- 66% of sellers "found their agent through a referral or used an agent they had worked with in the past" ([NAR 2025 Profile of Home Buyers and Sellers, via Virginia REALTORS, Dec 8, 2025](https://virginiarealtors.org/2025/12/08/key-takeaways-from-nars-2025-profile-of-home-buyers-and-sellers)).
- In a business.com poll of 1,547 professionals (Oct 2022; a publisher-run survey), the median company spend per gift was $30, clients said they expect $100, and 54% had thrown away at least one gift without using it ([business.com](https://www.business.com/customers/corporate-gift-study)).
- 87% of end-users would keep a branded drinkware item because it is useful ([ASI 2026 Ad Impressions Study; a promotional-products industry survey](https://members.asicentral.com/news/strategy/june-2026/asi-s-2026-ad-impressions-study-drinkware/)).
- USPS recommends sending Ground Advantage by **Thursday, Dec 17, 2026** for Christmas delivery in the lower 48 ([USPS holiday shipping dates](https://www.usps.com/holiday/holiday-shipping-dates.htm)).

## What do realtors send past clients for the holidays?

**Porch drops, things for the house, gift cards and treats that ship. Distance decides which.** One agent set a budget of "about $20 or less per client" and wanted something "mailable for those who are out of the area." A reply warned: "Postage is going to eat up most of that $20 if you mail something bulky" ([r/realtors](https://www.reddit.com/r/realtors/comments/1o4twv2/)).

| Gift | Reaches a client who moved away? | What stays in the house | Watch for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Porch-drop pop-by (pie, cookies) | No, you deliver it | Nothing | Your time per stop; see [the mailed pop-by](https://personalizedgiftsdelivered.com/professions/realtor-pop-by-ideas) |
| Engraved cutting board or knives | Yes | The item | Price, and how big the engraving is |
| Gift card in a holiday card | Yes, by letter mail | Nothing | Popular with recipients ([business.com](https://www.business.com/customers/corporate-gift-study)), but nothing to remember you by |
| Fudge or candy box | Yes | Nothing | Melting in warm weather; allergies |
| Logo mug gift box with cocoa and truffles (Personalized Gifts Delivered, $35 delivered) | Yes, lower 48 and DC, except Texas for now | The mug | Over a $20 budget; the truffles contain milk, soy and barley malt (gluten) |

## How much should a realtor spend on a client gift?

**We found no recent survey of what realtors spend on past-client gifts.** What realtors say in public lands between $20 and $35 a client:

- "Budget is about $20 or less per client" ([r/realtors](https://www.reddit.com/r/realtors/comments/1o4twv2/)).
- One agent "lowered it to a $35 goody box of assorted fudge, nuts, and cookies" (closing gifts; [r/realtors](https://www.reddit.com/r/realtors/comments/1pl2f2h/)). In an earlier thread, the same agent wrote of getting "way more praise" for a "$35 fudge/candy assortment" than for "customized expensive baskets" ([r/realtors](https://www.reddit.com/r/realtors/comments/1le2v8b/)).
- An agent planning to mail holiday gifts to past clients who are "now out of town" put the budget at "$35/client" for about 14 clients ([r/realtors, 2020](https://www.reddit.com/r/realtors/comments/k46mgq/)).

**More money doesn't buy more thanks.** Givers expect pricier gifts to be more appreciated, but recipients' appreciation is not linked to price ([Flynn and Adams, 2009, Stanford GSB](https://www.gsb.stanford.edu/faculty-research/publications/money-cant-buy-love-asymmetric-beliefs-about-link-between-gift-price)). Price the whole list before you cut it: with no minimum, a $35 delivered box for each of 40 past clients comes to $1,400. If you do tier the list, our suggestion is to start with clients who closed in the last 12 months and clients you still hear from.

## Is it tacky to put my logo on a client gift?

It can be. "I personally would never use anything branded with a Realtor's name/website for serving during the holidays… or probably ever," one commenter on r/realtors wrote. "It's advertising masquerading as a gift" ([r/realtors](https://www.reddit.com/r/realtors/comments/1wgdnjv/)). In the business.com survey, "prominently branded items felt more like ads than tokens of appreciation."

The other side is real too. In a PPAI trade survey, 44% preferred subtle branding over big, bold logos, and nearly 60% said a clear, visible logo helped them remember the brand ([PPAI Magazine, Oct 2025](https://flipbook.ppai.org/2025-10-01/62/)).

**Small logo, treat first, personal card.** That is how a branded gift stays a gift: something to enjoy tonight, a logo that signs rather than shouts, and a card about their house and their year, with no referral ask. Both sides of the data: [is a branded mug a good client gift, or cheap swag?](https://personalizedgiftsdelivered.com/why-gifts-work/branded-mug-gift-or-swag)

## Do RESPA and the IRS $25 rule apply to realtor client gifts?

This section quotes the rules. It doesn't apply them to your situation.

### RESPA: gifts to lenders, title officers and anyone who refers you

Reg X lists "(14) Rendering of services by a real estate agent or real estate broker" among settlement services ([12 CFR 1024.2(b)](https://www.consumerfinance.gov/rules-policy/regulations/1024/2/)), and Regulation X's version of the Section 8 ban begins: "No person shall give and no person shall accept any fee, kickback or other thing of value pursuant to any agreement or understanding, oral or otherwise, that business incident to or part of a settlement service involving a federally related mortgage loan shall be referred to any person" ([12 CFR 1024.14(b)](https://www.consumerfinance.gov/rules-policy/regulations/1024/14/)).

> **"Are gifts and promotions allowed under RESPA Section 8?"**
>
> "It depends." … "There is no exception to RESPA Section 8 solely based on the value of the gift or promotion."
>
> [CFPB RESPA FAQs](https://www.consumerfinance.gov/compliance/compliance-resources/mortgage-resources/real-estate-settlement-procedures-act/real-estate-settlement-procedures-act-faqs/), Gifts and Promotional Activity (updated Oct 7, 2020; read Oct 29, 2026)

> **"What conditions does Regulation X establish for gifts and promotions to be 'normal promotional and educational activities' allowed under RESPA?"**
>
> … "If an item or activity is targeted narrowly towards prior, ongoing, or future referral sources, this could indicate the item or activity is conditioned on referrals of business."
>
> [CFPB RESPA FAQs](https://www.consumerfinance.gov/compliance/compliance-resources/mortgage-resources/real-estate-settlement-procedures-act/real-estate-settlement-procedures-act-faqs/), Gifts and Promotional Activity (updated Oct 7, 2020; read Oct 29, 2026)

**For gifts to consumers, the CFPB has a separate FAQ:**

> **"Under RESPA Section 8, can a lender or other settlement service provider give a gift, refund, or discount to a consumer for using that lender or provider?"**
>
> "Generally, yes." … "However, RESPA Section 8 prohibits, for example, giving an incentive to a consumer in exchange for the consumer referring other business to that lender or other settlement service provider." … "Other federal and state laws may also have restrictions that apply and should be consulted."
>
> [CFPB RESPA FAQs](https://www.consumerfinance.gov/compliance/compliance-resources/mortgage-resources/real-estate-settlement-procedures-act/real-estate-settlement-procedures-act-faqs/), RESPA Section 8 General (updated Oct 7, 2020; read Oct 29, 2026)

For gifts and other inducements to clients, NAR's own standard points to state law:

> NAR Standard of Practice 12-3: "The offering of premiums, prizes, merchandise discounts or other inducements to list, sell, purchase, or lease is not, in itself, unethical even if receipt of the benefit is contingent on listing, selling, purchasing, or leasing through the REALTOR® making the offer." … "The offering of any inducements to do business is subject to the limitations and restrictions of state law and the ethical obligations established by any applicable Standard of Practice."
>
> [NAR 2026 Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice](https://www.nar.realtor/about-nar/governing-documents/code-of-ethics/2026-code-of-ethics-standards-of-practice) (read Oct 29, 2026)

**What the CFPB's text doesn't say:** it gives no dollar amount below which a gift to a referral partner sits outside Section 8. State real estate commission rules on gifts and inducements may apply too. Loan officers face the same rule from the other side ([loan officer closing gifts](https://personalizedgiftsdelivered.com/professions/loan-officer-closing-gifts)). Full rule: [RESPA Section 8 in the CFPB's own words](https://personalizedgiftsdelivered.com/gift-rules/respa-section-8-gifts).

### The IRS $25 rule

> "You can deduct no more than $25 for business gifts you give directly or indirectly to each person during your tax year."
>
> "Incidental costs, such as engraving on jewelry, or packaging, insuring, and mailing, are generally not included in determining the cost of a gift for purposes of the $25 limit. A cost is incidental only if it doesn't add substantial value to the gift. For example, the cost of gift wrapping is an incidental cost. However, the purchase of an ornamental basket for packaging fruit isn't an incidental cost if the value of the basket is substantial compared to the value of the fruit."
>
> [IRS Publication 463](https://www.irs.gov/publications/p463) (for use in preparing 2025 returns; read Oct 29, 2026)

Whether a gift box counts as incidental packaging depends on the facts; that judgment belongs to your tax professional. More in [are client gifts tax deductible?](https://personalizedgiftsdelivered.com/gift-rules/are-client-gifts-tax-deductible)

## What should the card say?

Two or three sentences about them: name the house or a moment, thank them, wish them well, and skip "P.S. I'm never too busy for your referrals!" One order prints one message (up to 300 characters) that can greet each client by first name; a line about one client's house goes in an order of its own. For example, signed "Sam":

- "Hi Dana and Luis, I hope your first winter on Maple Street is a cozy one. Thank you for letting me be part of it. Happy holidays!"

More lines: [holiday card messages for clients](https://personalizedgiftsdelivered.com/card-messages/holiday-messages-for-clients).

## When should realtors send past-client holiday gifts?

**Aim for arrival in the first two weeks of December,** before offices close and porches fill with packages. Thanksgiving and New Year gifts land in quieter weeks. Closing gifts run on their own clock: see [closing gifts for buyers and sellers](https://personalizedgiftsdelivered.com/professions/closing-gifts).

| Occasion | 2026 date | Order Personalized Gifts Delivered by | Note |
|---|---|---|---|
| Thanksgiving | Thu Nov 26 | Mon Nov 16 | Before the December rush |
| Hanukkah | Begins the evening of Fri Dec 4 | Mon Nov 23 | Before the Christmas rush |
| Christmas | Fri Dec 25 | Tue Dec 15 | USPS Ground Advantage send-by: Thu Dec 17 |
| New Year | Fri Jan 1, 2027 | Mon Dec 21 | After the December pile |

USPS calls its dates "recommended," and actual delivery "may vary" ([USPS](https://www.usps.com/holiday/holiday-shipping-dates.htm)).

## Can I pack and mail past-client gifts myself?

Yes: you can build and mail past-client gift boxes yourself, and by our estimate 25 logo mug gift boxes take about 9 hours of hands-on work (about 3½ of them packing, at about 8 minutes a box), plus a week or more waiting for supplies from about 8 separate orders. Per box, it comes out about even: about $38 with USPS counter postage and about $34 with commercial postage, with $1,192.84 paid up front for the mugs, the retail supply packs and 25 postage labels ([our DIY cost comparison](https://personalizedgiftsdelivered.com/compare/diy-mug-gift-box-vs-ordering), prices as of Oct 29, 2026).

One small mistake costs a box: a mug packed without a foam collar can break at the handle and must be bought, packed and shipped again, and a stale address sends a box away and back. With Personalized Gifts Delivered, you upload a logo, write one message and add one list. We print, pack and ship each box to its own address.

## What to know before you order

- **Where we ship.** The lower 48 states and Washington, DC, except Texas for now; no Alaska, Hawaii, Puerto Rico, APO/FPO or international. The order page flags any row we can't ship to, so you can fix it or take it out.
- **The treats.** LINDOR truffles contain milk, soy and barley malt (gluten); read the labels. Every box holds the same treats, and the [allergy and diet checklist](https://personalizedgiftsdelivered.com/client-gifts/food-allergy-gift-checklist) covers what to ask a client first.
- **One card message per order,** greeting each client by first name. A line about one client's house is an order of its own, and one box is a complete order.
- **The price.** $35 per box, delivered, with no minimum: 40 past clients come to $1,400, each box shipped to its own address.

## Where Personalized Gifts Delivered fits for a realtor's past clients

Gifting services can fail at the list step: one agent's service "failed to send gifts to four of my clients" ([r/realtors](https://www.reddit.com/r/realtors/comments/10dgre7/)). With Personalized Gifts Delivered, you see every row of your list on screen before you pay, and the order page flags any row we can't ship to. One order covers:

- **Each past client's own address, from one list.** Paste it or use our [client address spreadsheet template](https://personalizedgiftsdelivered.com/how-it-works/client-address-spreadsheet-template); clients who moved away are shipped at the new address on your list, each box on its own with tracking.
- **A card that greets each client by first name,** printed with your message and sealed in its envelope on the lid. You see every client's card, and the mug, before you pay.
- **Your brand inside, not on the porch.** The box travels in a plain white carton; the return address shows PersonalizedGiftsDelivered.com, and your name appears only on the card inside.
- **A record for your files.** When the boxes ship, one email brings a spreadsheet of recipient, ship date, carrier, tracking number and $35 per box: an itemized record for an expense or compliance file.

Add your logo (or type your website and we'll find it), or a photo or a few words for a personal gift; check the preview of your mug and card; add your address list; and pay $35 per box. We print, pack and ship each box to its own address. We ship from New York. Ships within 2 business days of a complete order (your design, your address list and payment). Ships by USPS Ground Advantage or UPS Ground, with tracking, and usually arrives 2–5 business days after it ships. Delivery dates are carrier estimates, not guarantees, and run slower in mid-December.

Each past client opens a [custom logo mug gift box, shipped to each client, no minimum](https://personalizedgiftsdelivered.com/custom-logo-mug-gift-box), with your name on the card and a mug to keep. Past-client list ready? [Start your order](https://personalizedgiftsdelivered.com/order): $35 per box, delivered.

## Frequently asked questions

### How much should a realtor spend on a past-client holiday gift?

Realtors on Reddit name holiday gift budgets of about $20 to $35 per past client; we found no recent survey of realtor gift spending. A 2022 business.com poll put the median company spend per gift at $30 (clients in the same poll said they expect $100). With no minimum, including every past client is simple arithmetic: at $35 delivered, 40 past clients come to $1,400.

### Is it tacky to put my logo on a client gift?

A big logo on a client gift can read as an ad, so keep it small, lead with something to eat or use, and add a personal card that asks for nothing. One commenter on r/realtors called a realtor-branded gift "advertising masquerading as a gift."

### Who ships a realtor's holiday gift to each past client's own address?

Personalized Gifts Delivered ships a logo mug gift box to each past client's own address from one list, at $35 per box delivered, with no minimum: your logo printed small on an 11 oz mug, Ghirardelli cocoa, 4 Lindt LINDOR milk chocolate truffles and a printed card that greets each client by first name. It ships to the lower 48 states and Washington, DC, except Texas for now.

### When should past-client holiday gifts arrive?

Aim for the first two weeks of December. USPS recommends sending Ground Advantage by Thursday, December 17, 2026 for Christmas delivery in the lower 48. Thanksgiving and New Year gifts are good alternatives that skip the December pile.

### Can a realtor send gifts to lenders or title officers who refer business?

The CFPB says "There is no exception to RESPA Section 8 solely based on the value of the gift or promotion," and Reg X lists a real estate agent's services as a settlement service. Ask your broker, counsel or compliance officer first.
