# What Wedding Photographers Send Couples at Gallery Delivery (and Thank-Yous for the Planners Who Refer Them)

Some wedding photographers on r/WeddingPhotography send couples a gift at gallery delivery, when the work is done: one sends a framed print and a handwritten note, because "people don't often print their photos". The couple's photo can go on a mug too: a $35 Personalized Gifts Delivered box, shipped to their door. Skip anniversaries; thank planners in the off-season.

*We sell a $35 personalized mug gift box, printed, packed and shipped to each person's address. This guide covers the other options too.*

**Key facts**
- A wedding photographer: "I give a framed print and a handwritten note... I find people don't often print their photos so sending them a framed print is very well received" ([r/WeddingPhotography, Oct 2026](https://www.reddit.com/r/WeddingPhotography/comments/1xb2kww/)).
- Another: "Don't do anniversary gifting. You have no way of knowing if they're still together or if, yikes, one of them passed away" ([r/WeddingPhotography, Jan 2025](https://www.reddit.com/r/WeddingPhotography/comments/1i57ad6/)).
- A commenter, "as a consumer": "if I receive a 'gift' from someone I hired, I instantly know two things: 1) I likely overpaid 2) I actually paid for this 'gift'" ([r/WeddingPhotography, Jun 2024](https://www.reddit.com/r/WeddingPhotography/comments/1d7d1fi/)).
- On planner referrals: "A referral gift, like a $25 Starbucks card and handwritten note is nice. Committing to give some % of the booked invoice is inappropriate" ([r/WeddingPhotography, May 2025](https://www.reddit.com/r/WeddingPhotography/comments/1kwvkxj/)).
- Budgets photographers shared for gifts after booking: "about $75 per couple" and "around $40" a gift ([r/WeddingPhotography, Oct 2017](https://www.reddit.com/r/WeddingPhotography/comments/790vji/)).

## When to send: gallery delivery, not the anniversary

**Send it when the last piece of work lands.** One photographer described the moment: "upon delivering the photobook and the usb after finalizing the wedding gallery and sending the online gallery, I like to surprise my couples with a little thoughtful memory/gift" ([r/WeddingPhotography](https://www.reddit.com/r/WeddingPhotography/comments/1xb2kww/)).

The other moments photographers have tried, and what they reported:

| Moment | What photographers describe | What they said |
|---|---|---|
| At booking | A welcome gift | "Welcome gifts aren't appreciated much more and I've debated doing away with them too." |
| First holiday season married | "a small ornament" | "Few appreciated them so I stopped." |
| Gallery delivery | A framed print and a note; a portrait painting | "very well received" |
| The first anniversary | A gift or a custom thumb drive | "Don't do anniversary gifting." |

The anniversary warning comes with a story. The same photographer "photographed both weddings for one gentleman. When he booked me the second time, only a year later, I had no idea his first marriage had failed." Gallery delivery has no such risk: you know where they are, and they're opening your work that week.

## What photographers send couples

| What | In the photographer's words | Source |
|---|---|---|
| A framed print and a handwritten note | "I find people don't often print their photos so sending them a framed print is very well received." | [r/WeddingPhotography, Oct 2026](https://www.reddit.com/r/WeddingPhotography/comments/1xb2kww/) |
| The same photographer, in another thread: an 8x10 frame, a note, treats for their pets | "I've gotten a lot of positive feedback." | [r/WeddingPhotography, Jan 2025](https://www.reddit.com/r/WeddingPhotography/comments/1i57ad6/) |
| After booking: a 16x20 canvas of a favorite engagement photo, plus a book | "So I end up spending about $75 per couple." | [r/WeddingPhotography, Oct 2017](https://www.reddit.com/r/WeddingPhotography/comments/790vji/) |
| After booking: something from the first consult | A gift card to a stationery store the client "mentioned in the first consult" | Same thread |

The pattern: their own photo, made into something physical, plus a note in your words.

## "I actually paid for this 'gift'": the skeptic's point

Not every client loves a vendor gift. One commenter on r/WeddingPhotography, speaking "as a consumer": "I would have just rather paid $100 less or whatever it cost them for the gift." A photographer in a 2017 thread: "if I were a client booking a photographer and they'd send me a gift, I'd be wondering if I'm paying you too much money."

The first commenter added a side note: "how about a framed print? You pick it. 100% surprise to them... It's inexpensive to you (before the frame) but has a high value to your client." And closed: "as a client/millennial, I'd still be wary."

The skeptic's own suggestion is a gift made from your work. A generic gift card or a candle could come from anyone. The couple's own photo, chosen by the person who took it, is something only you can send.

## The couple's photo on a mug, from us

A mug is a print they can use every day: one image, a morning coffee, your work in their hands. How it works on a Personalized Gifts Delivered order:

- **The photo:** your image of the couple, or a design you make with their photo, names and date, prints up to about 3 in tall on an 11 oz white ceramic mug, on one side or both. The order page warns when a photo is too small to print sharply, and we remove location and camera data from photos before they're stored.
- **One couple, one order:** every mug in an order carries the same print, so each couple's mug is its own order. One box is a complete order, at $35 delivered.
- **The rest of the box:** Ghirardelli premium hot cocoa and 4 Lindt LINDOR milk chocolate truffles inside the mug, black tissue with a gold seal sticker, in a matte-black gift box with a magnetic lid.
- **Your card:** your message and your studio's name as the sign-off, printed (not handwritten), in an envelope closed with a gold wax-seal sticker. The card carries words, not a logo.

Picking the image: our [photo mug guide](https://personalizedgiftsdelivered.com/personal-gifts/photo-mug-guide) covers crops, faces and pixels.

## Thank-you gifts for the planners who refer you

**The off-season is when photographers think of planners.** "Every December/off-season I think, this planner and that planner liked me/my work enough to refer me to their client... I want to send them a thank you gift," a photographer wrote, wanting "something that feels like a bit of a splurge, a pamper, and is durable ideally... I'm not interested in gift cards" ([r/WeddingPhotography, Jan 2026](https://www.reddit.com/r/WeddingPhotography/comments/1ql6wro/)).

What others in that thread had given or received: "I have gifted a tumbler, custom pen and a gift card before," and, as a gift the same commenter received and loved, "a custom wood Keychain, national parks candle and I think some sweet from a Florist."

**A thank-you, not a fee.** A separate thread asked about paying planners a percentage for referrals. The replies drew a line:

- "A referral gift, like a $25 Starbucks card and handwritten note is nice. Committing to give some % of the booked invoice is inappropriate. The first comes from a place of gratitude."
- "Referral fees gross me out. If you want to recommend me because you think I'll do a good job for your couple, that's wonderful."

For planners, the mug carries your studio's logo printed small, and one order sends a box to each planner on your list, every card greeting its planner by first name.

## What should the card say?

On a Personalized Gifts Delivered order, the card is printed (not handwritten), with no logo or brand: one message and one sign-off for the whole order, up to 300 characters. The message can include {first name}, filled in from the address list, and you preview every person's card before you pay. The order page tells you if a message is too long to print.

- For a couple: "Thank you for letting us be part of your day. Every time you pour a coffee, we hope this photo brings back the day you said I do. Wishing you both a lifetime of good mornings."
- For planners: "Hi {first name}, thank you for every couple you sent our way this year. Working beside you is the best part of a wedding day. Here's to a restful off-season."

## What sending these yourself takes

Yes: you can make and ship photo mug gift boxes yourself, and by our estimate 25 mug gift boxes take about 9 hours of hands-on work, plus a week or more waiting for supplies. That covers a mug printer's proof, about 8 supply orders, 25 shipping labels, 25 cards and about 3½ hours of packing (about 8 minutes a box). Per box, it comes out about even with our $35: about $38 with USPS counter postage, about $34 with commercial postage, with $1,192.84 paid up front for the mugs, the retail supply packs and 25 postage labels ([our DIY cost comparison](https://personalizedgiftsdelivered.com/compare/diy-mug-gift-box-vs-ordering), prices as of Oct 29, 2026).

Couples don't come in batches of 25. They come one gallery at a time, and a mug packed without a foam collar can break at the handle and must be printed, packed and shipped again. With Personalized Gifts Delivered, you upload the image and write the card; we print, pack and ship the box to the couple.

## What to know before you order

- **One print and one message per order.** Every mug in an order carries the same photo, and every card the same message and sign-off. Each couple's photo mug is its own order; one box is a complete order.
- **The seal says "Happy Holidays".** The black tissue closes with a gold "Happy Holidays" seal sticker, whatever the season; your card carries the thank-you.
- **The treats.** LINDOR truffles contain milk, soy and barley malt (gluten); read the labels. Chocolate softens in heat.
- **Where we ship.** The lower 48 states and Washington, DC, except Texas for now; no Alaska, Hawaii, Puerto Rico, other US territories, APO/FPO or international. The order page flags any row we can't ship to, so you can fix it or take it out before you pay.
- **If something goes wrong.** If a box arrives broken, send us a photo within 7 days of delivery and we'll reship it free. If a box goes astray because of an address on your list, we'll reship it to the corrected address for what the reship costs us, with no markup, and tell you the amount before we send it.

## Where Personalized Gifts Delivered fits for a photographer's couples and planners

Your gift should look like your work. One order sends it finished:

- **Their photo, in daily use:** your image printed up to about 3 in tall on an 11 oz white ceramic mug, one side or both, checked in the preview before you pay.
- **Something to enjoy the day it opens:** a 1.5 oz packet of Ghirardelli premium hot cocoa and 4 Lindt LINDOR milk chocolate truffles packed inside the mug, in a matte-black gift box with a magnetic lid.
- **Your words on top:** the card, signed with your studio's name, in an envelope closed with a gold wax-seal sticker, lying on the lid so it's read first.
- **Packed against breakage:** by hand, on a 2 in foam pad, in a 1 in foam collar, with a 1 in foam pad on top, in a plain white carton; the label's return address shows PersonalizedGiftsDelivered.com.
- **For planners:** your logo printed small, one order for the whole list, each card greeting its planner by first name. When the boxes ship, you get one email with a spreadsheet of recipient, ship date, carrier, tracking number and $35 per box.

Add your logo (or type your website and we'll find it), or a photo or a few words for a personal gift; check the preview of your mug and card; add your address list; and pay $35 per box. We print, pack and ship each box to its own address. We ship from New York. Ships within 2 business days of a complete order (your design, your address list and payment). Ships by USPS Ground Advantage or UPS Ground, with tracking, and usually arrives 2–5 business days after it ships. Delivery dates are carrier estimates, not guarantees, and run slower in mid-December.

That's a [personalized mug gift box with the couple's own photo, shipped to their door](https://personalizedgiftsdelivered.com/personalized-mug-gift-box), $35 delivered, sent the week their gallery goes out.
