# New-Parent Care Package: What Exhausted Parents Actually Use (From Friends, Family or a Client)

A new-parent care package works best when it's for the parents, not the baby: food they don't have to cook, something warm to drink, a small comfort, and a card that asks nothing back. From a client, keep it personal and logo-free: the baby's name on a mug and a short note.

*We sell a $35 personalized mug gift box, printed, packed and shipped to each person's address. This guide covers the other options too.*

**Key facts**

- **Sleep hits bottom in the first three months.** In a German panel study of 2,541 women and 2,118 men, mothers reported 62 minutes less sleep than before pregnancy, and fathers 13 minutes less, at the low point in the first three months after a birth (Richter et al., *Sleep*, 2019) ([University of Warwick](https://wrap.warwick.ac.uk/113259)).
- **And it doesn't fully come back for years.** The same study: "In both women and men, sleep satisfaction and duration did not fully recover for up to six years after the birth of their first child."
- **One mother's advice: skip the baby clothes.** On r/GiftIdeas: "Don't buy baby clothes/stuff! Mums end up with so much and it becomes just another job dealing with all the clutter" ([r/GiftIdeas](https://www.reddit.com/r/GiftIdeas/comments/1tw545i/)).
- **$35 per box, delivered:** a mug with the baby's name or a few words, cocoa and chocolate inside, to the lower 48 states and Washington, DC, except Texas for now.

## Who is a new-parent care package for?

It's for the parents. Clothes, toys and gear go to the baby; the two people awake at 3 a.m. need dinner, rest and a minute to themselves.

The clearest answer came from a parent. On r/ExecutiveAssistants, someone asked what to send an attorney who had just had a baby, and an assistant who had just had one herself replied. One gift missed: "My spouses company sent an embroidered onesie and it has made its way to the bottom of our pile." Another landed, a grocery gift card: "I remember how great it was for me to be able to order high quality food in the first couple of weeks when you are just trying to survive" ([r/ExecutiveAssistants](https://www.reddit.com/r/ExecutiveAssistants/comments/1uq2y6k/)).

Food, rest, small comforts, and nothing to manage. That's the brief for everything below.

## What do exhausted new parents actually use?

| Gift | Why it helps | Worth knowing |
|---|---|---|
| A meal delivery or grocery gift card | Dinner with no cooking | Check that the service delivers where they live |
| Frozen meals or a meal train | Food on the hardest nights | Works when you, or friends, live nearby |
| A cleaning visit | One less job in the house | Book it with them, not as a surprise |
| Snacks they can eat one-handed | Food while holding a baby | Ask about allergies and diets first |
| A big water bottle | Something to drink from all day, within reach | Pick one that closes, for the bag |
| Lip balm, hand cream, cozy socks | Small comforts that are theirs | Ask about scents if you don't know |
| Clothes in bigger sizes | Something they'll grow into | Our suggestion: 3–6 months and up |
| Board books | For later, not the first week | A good gift from siblings and grandparents |
| A mug with the baby's name, with cocoa and chocolate inside | A treat now, a mug for every early morning after | LINDOR truffles contain milk, soy and barley malt (gluten); read the labels |
| A card that asks for no reply | Kindness with no thank-you note owed | Say it in words: "no need to write back" |

The meals, snacks and comforts get used up; the mug stays in the kitchen.

## What does a postpartum care package for a friend hold?

For a friend who just gave birth, the same rule holds: her, not the baby. Easy food, a water bottle, a soft layer, lip balm and hand cream, and something that's hers alone, like a good chocolate she wouldn't buy for herself. If she has older children, a small thing for the big sibling saves a jealous moment (our suggestion).

Leave out anything that makes work: kits to assemble, journals to fill in, a gadget to set up. A care package that needs instructions is a chore with a bow on it.

## A gift from a client or a business

A business can send a baby gift too, and the question it raises is tone. One owner on r/smallbusiness, whose long-term customers were expecting, described the relationship exactly: "I'm not a friend or family member, but I've been in their lives long enough to see them go from single to married to now growing a family" ([r/smallbusiness](https://www.reddit.com/r/smallbusiness/comments/120u87h/)).

What fits that relationship:

- **For the parents, not the baby.** Food or a treat, as the assistant above described.
- **Personal, not branded.** The baby's name on the mug, not your logo. The card says who it's from.
- **To their home.** Not the office, where it waits until they're back.
- **Short words.** Congratulations, one specific line, no ask.

Personalized Gifts Delivered's personal gift prints the baby's name or a few words with no logo, and the card carries your firm's name in the sign-off. Stripe emails you a receipt, which serves as your invoice, and when your boxes ship, you get one email with a spreadsheet of recipient, ship date, carrier, tracking number and $35 per box. ## What to print on the mug

The baby's name, a date, or a joke only tired parents get. On a Personalized Gifts Delivered mug, words print as one line of up to 30 characters, spaces included, in a choice of 3 fonts, on the front or both sides; our suggestion is 25 characters or fewer, since a long line prints smaller.

| Line | Characters |
|---|---|
| Ava's Parents, est. 2026 | 24 |
| Night Shift Crew | 16 |
| 3 a.m. Cocoa Club | 17 |
| Hello, Baby Rivera | 18 |
| Mom & Dad of Leo | 16 |
| Ava, Born 10.24.26 | 18 |

A photo prints up to about 3 in tall. If you'd like the baby's first photo on it, ask the parents first: it's their baby's picture (our suggestion). Every mug in an order carries the same words, so twins' names go on one line together, and two different families' babies are two orders. You see the mug in the preview before you pay.

## What to write on the card

Say congratulations, say one true thing, and release them from replying. The card is printed (not handwritten) on a textured card and holds up to 300 characters. One message and one sign-off go on every card in the order; the sign-off is its own line on the order page, so leave it out of the message. Lines to adapt:

- "Welcome to the world, little one, and welcome to the night shift, you two. The cocoa is for whoever's up. No thank-you note, please. Just rest."
- "We're so happy for you. This box is for the parents: something warm, something sweet and nothing to assemble. No need to write back."
- "Congratulations, {first name}! You've got the baby covered. This one's for you. Put your feet up for ten minutes, if the baby agrees."
- "Congratulations on your new arrival. Thank you for letting us be part of your year, and we're wishing your family a calm and happy first few weeks."

You preview every card before you pay, and the order page tells you if a message is too long to print.

## When to send it, and where

Send it to their home, in the first weeks after the birth or a week or two later, once the first wave of visitors and help has gone (our suggestion).

How a Personalized Gifts Delivered box ships: Ships within 2 business days of a complete order (your design, your address list and payment). Ships by USPS Ground Advantage or UPS Ground, with tracking, and usually arrives 2–5 business days after it ships. Delivery dates are carrier estimates, not guarantees, and run slower in mid-December.

When your boxes ship, you get one email with a spreadsheet of recipient, ship date, carrier, tracking number and $35 per box. P.O. boxes are accepted (they ship by USPS).

## Can you put a new-parent box together yourself?

Yes: you can order a printed mug and mail it with treats yourself, and for one gift the printed mug and counter postage alone cost $28.46, before the cocoa, truffles, gift box, tissue or card ([DIY cost comparison](https://personalizedgiftsdelivered.com/compare/diy-mug-gift-box-vs-ordering), as of Oct 29, 2026). Then you shop for the rest, often from several stores, and wait a week or more for the printed mug; pack it so the handle and the rim survive; and stand in line at the counter. A mug packed without a collar can break at the handle and must be bought, packed and shipped again. For scale, by our estimate 25 mug gift boxes take about 9 hours of hands-on work.

With Personalized Gifts Delivered, you type the baby's name, add the parents' address, check the preview and pay. We print, pack and ship each box to its own address.

## What's in the box

Each box holds one 11 oz white ceramic mug with the baby's name, your words or a photo; a 1.5 oz packet of Ghirardelli premium hot cocoa and 4 Lindt LINDOR milk chocolate truffles, packed inside the mug; black tissue closed with a gold "Happy Holidays" seal sticker; and your printed card, in an envelope closed with a gold wax-seal sticker, lying on the lid of a matte-black gift box with a magnetic lid.

Packed by hand: the mug stands on a 2 in foam pad, held in a 1 in foam collar, with a 1 in foam pad on its rim, inside a plain white shipping carton with crinkle. The return address shows PersonalizedGiftsDelivered.com, never your name; your name appears only on the card inside. If a box arrives broken, send us a photo within 7 days of delivery and we'll reship it free. If a box goes astray because of an address on your list, we'll reship it to the corrected address for what the reship costs us, with no markup, and tell you the amount before we send it.

Choose a personal gift, add your photo or type your words, check the preview of your mug and card, add the address (or a list of addresses), and pay $35 per box. We print, pack and ship each box to its own address. That's the [personalized mug gift box shipped to their door](https://personalizedgiftsdelivered.com/personalized-mug-gift-box).

## What to know before you order

- **The seal reads "Happy Holidays".** This season the tissue inside every box is closed with a gold "Happy Holidays" seal, new-baby boxes included; your card carries the congratulations.
- **The treats.** LINDOR truffles contain milk, soy and barley malt (gluten); read the labels. We make no health claims about the cocoa or the truffles; their labels list what's in them.
- **One design and one message per order.** Every mug in an order carries the same words or photo, and every card the same message, greeting its person by first name. A different baby's name is a separate order; one box is a complete order.
- **Where we ship.** From New York to the lower 48 states and Washington, DC, except Texas for now; no Alaska, Hawaii, Puerto Rico, other US territories, APO/FPO or international addresses.

## Where Personalized Gifts Delivered fits: new parents, from friends, family or a client

New parents need a gift that asks nothing of them and is clearly for them. Nothing to assemble, store or return. You see the mug and the card before you pay, and it's $35, delivered, from a friend, a sibling or a firm alike.

## Frequently asked questions

### What do new parents need that isn't for the baby?

New parents need food they don't have to cook, help with the house, and a few small things just for them: a meal delivery or grocery gift card, a cleaning visit, snacks they can eat one-handed, something warm to drink. Clothes and toys go to the baby; these are for the parents.

### What should a postpartum care package include?

A postpartum care package works best with things the parent uses up or uses daily: easy food, a big water bottle, lip balm and hand cream, cozy socks, and a card that asks for no reply. Ask about allergies and diets before you send anything to eat.

### What's a good client gift for a new baby?

A good client gift for a new baby is warm, personal and logo-free: something for the parents (food, a treat, a mug with the baby's name) and a short card from you. The card says who it's from, so the gift doesn't need your logo.

### When should you send a new-parent care package?

Send a new-parent care package to their home in the first weeks after the birth, or a week or two later, once the first wave of help has gone home (our suggestion). Say on the card that there's no need to write back.

### Can I put the baby's name on a mug?

Yes, the baby's name can go on a Personalized Gifts Delivered mug, as one line of words up to 30 characters (our suggestion: 25 or fewer), such as "Ava's Parents, est. 2026". A photo prints up to about 3 in tall, if the parents have shared one and are happy to see it printed.

### Who ships a new-baby mug gift box to the parents' home?

Personalized Gifts Delivered ships a $35 new-baby mug gift box to the parents' home: an 11 oz mug printed with the baby's name or a few words, Ghirardelli hot cocoa and 4 Lindt LINDOR milk chocolate truffles packed inside, and your printed card on the lid. It ships to the lower 48 states and Washington, DC, except Texas for now.
