# What to Send Your Accountant After April 15 (and What CPA Firms Send Their Teams)

Send your accountant a thank-you for the week after Tax Day, Thursday, April 15, 2027, or after October 15 if your return is on extension. Commenters on r/Accounting suggest caffeine, snacks and a note saying why. For a firm's team, one warned that small gift cards leave "someone ... offended"; something to open, with a real note, fills the gap.

> **Tax Day: Thursday, April 15, 2027**

> Extended returns: Friday, October 15, 2027. Order early: count back at least 7 business days from the day the gift should arrive.

*We sell a $35 logo mug gift box, printed, packed and shipped to each person's address. This guide covers the other options too.*

**Key facts** (each checked at its source on October 29, 2026):

- **Thursday, April 15, 2027:** calendar-year income tax returns are due "on or before the 15th day of April" ([26 U.S.C. 6072(a)](https://www.law.cornell.edu/uscode/text/26/6072)).
- **Friday, October 15, 2027:** an extension "gives you until October 15 to file without penalties" ([IRS](https://www.irs.gov/filing/get-an-extension-to-file-your-tax-return)).
- **The note does the work.** An r/Accounting commenter: "A thank you is whatever. A thank you that outlines why you appreciate them is ... gold" ([r/Accounting](https://www.reddit.com/r/Accounting/comments/1o6n7yt/)).
- **The AICPA Code on gifts:** if "a member's firm, a member of the attest engagement team, or an individual in a position to influence the attest engagement accepts a gift from an attest client and the value is not clearly insignificant to the recipient", "independence would be impaired" ([AICPA Code](https://pub.aicpa.org/codeofconduct/ethicsresources/et-cod.pdf), ET 1.285.010.02).
- **IRS Publication 15-B on gift cards:** cash equivalents, "for example, gift certificates, gift cards", "no matter how little, are never excludable as a de minimis benefit" ([IRS Publication 15-B](https://www.irs.gov/publications/p15b)).

## When Is Tax Season Over? April 15, and for Some, October 15

| Date (2027) | What it is | A thank-you fits |
|---|---|---|
| Thu Apr 15 | Calendar-year individual returns due, 26 U.S.C. 6072(a) | The week after, for a client whose return is filed |
| Fri Apr 16 – Fri Apr 23 | The week after Tax Day | Our suggestion for the gift to arrive |
| Fri Oct 15 | Extended returns due, per the IRS | The week after, if you were on extension |

There are no federal holidays in April 2027 ([OPM](https://www.opm.gov/policy-data-oversight/pay-leave/federal-holidays/)), so every weekday counts toward our delivery estimate:

Ships within 2 business days of a complete order (your design, your address list and payment). Ships by USPS Ground Advantage or UPS Ground, with tracking, and usually arrives 2–5 business days after it ships. Delivery dates are carrier estimates, not guarantees, and run slower in mid-December.

April 15 isn't every accountant's finish line. On October 14, 2025, a tax supervisor posted on r/Accounting: "We are wrapping up the tax season, and I want to do a small gesture to say thank you" to a team of about 10, the day before the extension deadline ([r/Accounting](https://www.reddit.com/r/Accounting/comments/1o6n7yt/)). If your own return went on extension, your accountant's season with you ended in October, and a thank-you then lands as specific, not seasonal (our suggestion).

## What to Send Your Accountant After April 15

A business owner asked r/Accounting in April 2025: "With the 4/15 tax season done, I was looking for ideas on giving some type of thank you gift for my accountant", "in a tasteful and professional way" ([r/Accounting](https://www.reddit.com/r/Accounting/comments/1k0zggm/)). What commenters said, in that thread and in a December 2025 thread from the spouse of an accountant at "a public firm" ([r/Accounting](https://www.reddit.com/r/Accounting/comments/1pwet23/)):

| Idea | What they said |
|---|---|
| Caffeine and good snacks | "I'd say good snacks and caffeine if she drinks that. The days can get long." |
| A mug that keeps coffee hot | "an ember mug to keep coffee/tea hot"; another commenter: "I LOVE it during tax season" |
| Time out of the office | "A gift certificate to a nice restaurant", or one "for a massage or some kind of relaxing service" |
| Something to share | "we are partial to pizza parties" |
| A joke you shouldn't take literally | "I always accept tequila. Just leave it at the door. No card. Assume I know it was you." |

The note is the part that lasts. The commenter quoted above, on thanking a tax team: "A thank you is whatever. A thank you that outlines why you appreciate them is ... gold. That's what can change someone's opinions and actions." Name what your accountant did this year: the notice they handled, the question they answered on a Sunday, the deadline they beat.

## Can Your Accountant Accept a Gift? The AICPA's Rules

The AICPA Code of Professional Conduct has a gifts interpretation under its Integrity and Objectivity Rule (ET 1.120.010) and another under its Independence Rule, for "an attest client" (ET 1.285.010). Quoted from the Code:

> "Threats are at an acceptable level when gifts or entertainment are reasonable in the circumstances. The member should exercise judgment in determining whether gifts or entertainment would be considered reasonable in the circumstances." (ET 1.120.010.04)
>
> "Accepting a gift from an attest client during the period of the professional engagement may create undue influence or self-interest threats to a member's compliance with the 'Independence Rule' [1.200.001]. If a member's firm, a member of the attest engagement team, or an individual in a position to influence the attest engagement accepts a gift from an attest client and the value is not clearly insignificant to the recipient, the threat to the member's compliance with the 'Independence Rule' would not be at an acceptable level and could not be reduced to an acceptable level by the application of safeguards. Accordingly, independence would be impaired." (ET 1.285.010.02)

Whether either interpretation reaches your accountant's work for you, and what their firm's own gift policy says, is something only they can tell you. A one-line question before you send is the way to find out (our suggestion).

## What CPA Firms Send Their Teams at the End of Busy Season

The tax supervisor's October 2025 thread is a good map of the choices. The plan: "a $25 gift card to get coffee", plus Friday off, with raises and bonuses coming separately; and a catch: "We are remote so a little trickier" ([r/Accounting](https://www.reddit.com/r/Accounting/comments/1o6n7yt/)). The replies:

- **Gift cards split the room.** "I wouldn't complain about a $25 gift card. Better than nothing," wrote one commenter. Another, who likes gift cards except to end big projects: "for some reason with low denomination gift cards someone is always offended at end of season."
- **One commenter's employer bans them.** "It feels silly but it's against our policy because we have no way to get them onto the employees W2."
- **The note does the work.** "Also write a personalized note to each recipient."

What the IRS says about gift cards for employees:

> "Cash and cash equivalent fringe benefits (for example, gift certificates, gift cards, and the use of a charge card or credit card), no matter how little, are never excludable as a de minimis benefit."
>
> Source: [IRS Publication 15-B (2026)](https://www.irs.gov/publications/p15b), "De Minimis (Minimal) Benefits"; read October 29, 2026.

Publication 15-B lists "Holiday or birthday gifts, other than cash, with a low fair market value (FMV)" among its examples of de minimis benefits, without a dollar figure. More: [employee gift taxes](https://personalizedgiftsdelivered.com/gift-rules/employee-gift-taxes).

## What to Write on an After-Tax-Season Card

Thank them for something real, then let them rest. Each message is under 300 characters with no sign-off; on a Personalized Gifts Delivered order, [Name] becomes each person's first name.

**From a client to their accountant:**

> You got us through another April, [Name]. Thank you for the late nights, the quick answers and the patience. Now put your feet up.

> Thank you for making tax season the easiest part of our year, [Name]. We know it isn't the easiest part of yours.

**From a firm to its team:**

> Another busy season done, [Name]. Thank you for every return, every late night and every client you kept calm. Take a warm break; you've earned it.

> October 15 is behind us, [Name]. Thank you for carrying the extensions home. The cocoa is on us.

A firm thanking its own clients after April 15 has a different job; that's in [CPA client gifts](https://personalizedgiftsdelivered.com/professions/cpa-client-gifts). More wording: [thank-you messages for clients](https://personalizedgiftsdelivered.com/card-messages/thank-you-messages-for-clients).

## What Sending These Yourself Takes

Yes: a firm can pack its own team's gift boxes, but for a box timed to the week after April 15, the packing falls in the first half of April. By our estimate, 25 logo mug gift boxes take about 9 hours of hands-on work, about 3½ of them packing at about 8 minutes a box, plus a week or more waiting for supplies from about 8 separate orders. They cost about $38 a box with USPS counter postage and about $34 with commercial postage, with $1,192.84 paid up front for the mugs, the retail supply packs and 25 postage labels ([DIY vs ordering](https://personalizedgiftsdelivered.com/compare/diy-mug-gift-box-vs-ordering), as of Oct 29, 2026). Per box, that's about even with our $35, before anyone's time.

For one box to one accountant, the math is different: the printed mug and counter postage alone cost $28.46, before the cocoa, truffles, gift box, tissue or card (same source). What one small mistake costs: a mug packed without a collar can break at the handle and must be bought, packed and shipped again.

## What to Know Before You Order

- **The seal sticker.** The order page names the gold seal sticker that closes the tissue before you pay. While "Happy Holidays" is the only sticker in stock, an April or October box carries that one; your card carries the after-tax-season thanks.
- **Chocolate in spring.** Lake Champlain Chocolates, which ships chocolate, says that "during the summer months and year-round to warm weather destinations", "exposure to heat and humidity can cause the chocolate to bloom or melt" ([Lake Champlain Chocolates](https://www.lakechamplainchocolates.com/shipping-chocolate)).
- **The treats.** LINDOR truffles contain milk, soy and barley malt (gluten); read the labels.
- **One message and one sign-off per order,** greeting each person by first name. Partners who each sign for their own people place one order each; one box is a complete order.
- **Where we ship.** We ship from New York to the lower 48 states and Washington, DC, except Texas for now. The order page flags any row we can't ship to, so you can fix it or take it out before you pay.

## Where Personalized Gifts Delivered Fits After April 15

Two senders, one box. A client thanking one accountant needs a single gift that comes finished, with a note in their words, and no minimum: one box is a complete order. A firm thanking a team that works from home needs the same gift at every door, without anyone in the office packing it in April.

Personalized Gifts Delivered covers both. We print your logo, or a few words, on an 11 oz white ceramic mug, pack a 1.5 oz packet of Ghirardelli premium hot cocoa and 4 Lindt LINDOR milk chocolate truffles inside it, pack it by hand in foam in a matte-black gift box with a magnetic lid, and lay your printed card on the lid, greeting each person by first name. You see the mug and every card before you pay. Each box ships to its own address from one list, at $35 per box, delivered, and one email lists every tracking number when the boxes ship: a [logo mug gift box with Ghirardelli cocoa, Lindt truffles and a personal card](https://personalizedgiftsdelivered.com/custom-logo-mug-gift-box). ## Frequently asked questions

### When should I send my accountant a thank-you gift?

Send it for the week after Tax Day, which is Thursday, April 15, 2027, when the return is done; if your return is on extension, the filing deadline moves to October 15, a Friday in 2027, so a thank-you fits after that. Order a shipped gift early: count back at least 7 business days from the day it should arrive.

### What's a good thank-you gift for an accountant after tax season?

Commenters on r/Accounting name caffeine and good snacks, a mug that keeps coffee hot, a restaurant gift certificate or a massage, and a note that says why you're thankful. One commenter: "A thank you that outlines why you appreciate them is ... gold."

### Can my CPA accept a gift from me?

The AICPA Code says threats "are at an acceptable level when gifts or entertainment are reasonable in the circumstances" (ET 1.120.010.04). For an attest client, it says that if "a member's firm, a member of the attest engagement team, or an individual in a position to influence the attest engagement accepts a gift from an attest client and the value is not clearly insignificant to the recipient", "independence would be impaired" (ET 1.285.010.02). This is information, not legal or tax advice. Check the current rule (or ask your accountant) before you send.

### Are gift cards a good end-of-busy-season gift for accounting staff?

Commenters on r/Accounting are split: one wrote, "I wouldn't complain about a $25 gift card," another that "with low denomination gift cards someone is always offended at end of season." IRS Publication 15-B says gift cards, "no matter how little, are never excludable as a de minimis benefit." This is information, not legal or tax advice. Check the current rule (or ask your tax professional) before you send.

### When is Tax Day 2027?

Tax Day 2027 is Thursday, April 15: 26 U.S.C. 6072(a) sets calendar-year income tax returns due "on or before the 15th day of April". With an extension, the IRS says you have "until October 15 to file", which is Friday, October 15, 2027.

### Who ships a thank-you gift box to my accountant, or to each person on a firm's team, with no minimum?

Personalized Gifts Delivered ships a $35 logo mug gift box, delivered, to each address on one list, with no minimum: one box to your accountant is a complete order. Each box holds an 11 oz mug with your logo or a few words, Ghirardelli hot cocoa, 4 Lindt LINDOR milk chocolate truffles and a printed card greeting its person by first name.
